Hi,

I have recently registered an Lc 2 door and was wishing to put decent rubber under it. It currently has a standard length 9Inch and 15x6 rims 205 tyres. The guards have not been rolled and they are already scrubbing on bumps. I was wishing to go 15x8 with mayb a 245 50series tyre. Has anyone attempted this?

I'm in Qld so tubbing is not really an option although I may consider squaring arches.

Any help would be great.

Doesn't look like ET streets come in 245 50 series 15"

You can get 8inch rim under there no worries as long as you shorten diff correctly to suit.

Cheers Macka

Agreed, 8 will fit nicely, 7 shits it in, but its all about the offset. Most are wrong.

I got 8 inch steel rims with a 6 1/8 inch offset

( was created by using a normal rim, by measuring from the rim in place to the areas the tyre will touch)

and got the rims made, moved the shocky to the start of it's mounting stud and mini-tub 2 inches to the wheel arch under the back seat. Dave I

p.s. the tyre was a 245/50/14 and cleared the standard guard by 1/2 inch and the tyre was inline with the standard mudflap

p.p.s. I find it hard to believe an 8" tyre will fit without rubbing at corners and not modifying anything

I currently has Weld pro stars on it, They make 15x8 with 31/2, 41/2, 51/2 back space. By the sounds of it I need 51/2 is that right?

Then shortern 9 inch to suit?

5 1/2 will be best and shorten diff overall length by 1 1/4 less than a standard LC/ LJ rear end overall length will be spot on, oh, also move inner rear guard under the back seat 2 inches. Dave I

I have noticed the seat beat mount is on inner guard, can this be left untouched?

I still think if my memory serves me right, the under seat has to be extended other wise I would not have had to do it.

All other mountings are OK except the shocky needs to move an extra 1/2 inch or so away from the tyre when cornering. Dave I

p.s. I am about to upload a picture of my rims to prove the offset

The Shocky mount is a 2 inch shaft say and the shock sits half way on standard, so I just moved it hard up on the bracket, still modified under seat as the front 1/2 of the rear guard well is narrower than the rear of the rear guard well is. Dave I

ok, Hey I have a 6 inch rim with 31/2 back space, if I put a 8 inch rim on with 51/2 back space wheel will sit in same position. 21/2 after back space. Why would I need to shortern diff?

if you want an 8 inch in the sweet spot, then do my method.

if you want to do another way, go for it. Dave I

p.s. in theory, all these ideas work, then in practice is where movement of the car does the talking

TrueLOL, Thanks for your Help Dave. It looks as though I will be safe to buy the 15x8 with 51/2 back space and get rest to fit from there.

Flares look great on your car, but not the look im after. P255/60R15 ET street radials on 15x8 with 51/2 backspace is what im thinking. Hope I dont have to cut and shut it to bad to get them in.

Hi LC 2door V8,

After thinking about your Idea as a normal rim is 4 inch offset, does the tyres on the 3 1/2 inch back space rim touch the inner edge of the rear guard when cornering?

If not, that will give you an extra 1/2 inch on the diff side of the wheel which in effect will act like a 6 inch offset from my measurements.

The only problem will be the 255 tyres, they will be wider than the 8 inch rim which will hit the rear inner edge of a standard guard using the 5 1/2 inch back space rims.

255 tyres are 255mm wide and an 8 inch rim is 200mm so there will be at-least 30mm of rubber hanging off the sides of the rims. Dave I

p.s. it will be interesting to know how you go

HI Torypower,

I agree 255 will not fit without Mods. I have found my nine inch is already shortened. Looking like I will have to go 15x7 41/2 back space with 235 ET streets. Next problems is my current tyres are 25inch dia, the 235 60 series are 26inch and front to back guard clearance is a problem. My 25 inch scrub a little on bumps on outer edge

I really think you should take your car to someone who does tubb/diff building or a race car builder, even some of the mag wheel specialist

should be able to measure up a wheel/tyre combo for you and advise on diff length,

I had my LJ rear completely done by Craig Brewer of ProPipes here in Melb, he made the diff, suspension points

mini tubbs, and supplied axles, so I could run 275/50/15 ETstreets, I think you need a profesional to look at it

you dont want to have to fit spacers and shit afterwards because the tyres rub

just my 2cents

Dave

I fit 235/60x15 radial's on the LJ using 15x7 Commodore rims, but had to trim the front of the wheel arch. The car also sits higher than most std LJ's & is used on the strip more than the road.

Yeah, was talking to panel beater, looks like have to cut a bit to fit 235 60 series. My diff is Hq stud but 7 inch rims should fit ok.
