As my SLR is up for sale, Ill be doing up a for sale ad soon....

There really isnt much of a market up this way for these sort of cars. Perhaps if it was a genuine matching numbers Land Cruiser or something, it might be ok.

So, Ill obviously have to advertise the car online, no doubt most members on this forum already own a Torana, so probably wont have much luck selling to an existing forum member.

Where should I look at advertising?

Unique cars, Carsales, AMCS, eBay, Gumtree?

I know Ill wind up getting calls from nut jobs and the pictures most likely copied and then fake eBay ads for the car set up... but what else can you do????

There are a few car shows coming up over winter, so I guess I could put a for sale sign on the car there I spose?

Any suggestions from others who have gone through this process?

Oh yeah, forgot about them! I guess Id just have to trailer the car to Sydney or something and leave it there until it sold?

Im a little bit put off with AMCS and eBay taking a cut from the sale.... I understand AMCS would deal with the dreamers but I would like to deal directly with the actual person buying the car so that they understand all the work and effort that has gone into it. AMCS kind of seems like the real estate game, where you never get to talk to the previous owner of your house...

eBay fees aren't expensive for a car where as amcs takes a deposit off client before they get to view

AMCS take 5.5% of your sale price.... Thats a bit of a chunk!

Shannons have a set fee for cars with a reserve, and a lower fee for cars without a reserve. Im unsure what the cost of those fees are??

I would also have to factor in transporting the car to Sydney... That could be expensive!

I think Unique cars online is part of Car Sales???

Or should I get my mates to bid on it on eBay like another black taxi?

Carsales, I've bought and sold cars through them before and it worked out well just price it realistically or it'll sit on there forever.

Hi Brad,

Have bought and sold a few cars using Carsales....including buying my GTR.

I recall as a seller it was the most expensive of the online options...but seems to have a good reach.

Also tried to sell a caravan on Tradi$$ Po#$$ and got a few call....but didn't sell...so we got our fees back ..i.e no sale no cost.

I guess its about selling the car, not how much it costs to sell it ( within reason ).

My son has also some a few MX bikes via the web.....got spammed by heaps of people when he used GumT&*

Its a risk but it centralises the car to a larger market. I think your car needs to be seen in real life to really get the full effect. You only need two people to want it.

Maybe try the web options first, if it doesn't go in a few months take it off for a while and then investigate a public auction.

Good luck .

I think for a car like yours word of mouth is the go.

You just need people to start talking about it....classic car people are always talking shit about classic cars. Someone says they are shopping for a mint torana, they get referred to your build thread and it goes from there.

For person serious about buying a car like yours, they'll gladly fly north to where you are to look at it.

After all, how many grandpa spec, mint condition Tuxedo black LH SL/R 5000's are for sale?

How much have you got on it?

Figure out what you NEED for the car

Then add 10% for handling fees

Then add 10% for fun

And whoever buys it will be a happy man anyway

Price for your sort of car isn't particularly relevant

The guy that buys it won't care about a few dollars here or there

He will care that the car is perfect and exactly as advertised

Wankers that try to barter for a few dollars aren't worth selling to anyway

I used Gumtree with a disclaimer stating not interested in swapping for anything but HK T G Monaro and also advertised on carsales but gumtree ad sold it.

I have a HK GTS327 resto project taking up space in my shed, but don't want to advertise due to the river of morons i'll have to wade through to find the buyer. Shame there is so many of them. I did sell my Overlander tonner through Ebay ad though, but still had a few fools to deal with first.

I sold my HB on ebay and the amount of frOckwits on there is stupid. People with no interest in buying will still tell you the price is too high or somethings wrong with it etc. Had one dickhead wanting to "sort me out" because I knocked back his lowball offer mid way through the auction. And that was just a HB, not an SL/R.

That said, it sold on there and the buyer turned up when he said he would and paid cash, so it ended well.

I did consider that, but I would want to guarantee that it would be sold during that time down there, otherwise Id have to trailer it back home again.... Perhaps if it has not sold in a years time, I could bring it down to Toranafest, then continue on to Shannons Auctions if it hadnt sold?

When you advertise it make a point of firmly saying "no time wasters, wankers or dreamers, genuine interist only".

As has already been said, dont let it out of your sight, dont freight it south at your own expence,a car like that can easily "get lost".

If someone is keen to buy, they can do some homework on the car (tell em to check your build thread) then they fly up to you to have a look if they are serious.

There is enough people around here that can vouch for your car as being the real thing.

Plenty of cars have been sold at auctions without the actual car being on site.good luck.
