As my SLR is up for sale, Ill be doing up a for sale ad soon....

There really isnt much of a market up this way for these sort of cars. Perhaps if it was a genuine matching numbers Land Cruiser or something, it might be ok.

So, Ill obviously have to advertise the car online, no doubt most members on this forum already own a Torana, so probably wont have much luck selling to an existing forum member.

Where should I look at advertising?

Unique cars, Carsales, AMCS, eBay, Gumtree?

I know Ill wind up getting calls from nut jobs and the pictures most likely copied and then fake eBay ads for the car set up... but what else can you do????

There are a few car shows coming up over winter, so I guess I could put a for sale sign on the car there I spose?

Any suggestions from others who have gone through this process?

Hey Brad, unfortunate set of circumstances regards your car. I do hope the new owner will be as enthusiastic about what it is as you have been.

A bit of hindsight (always a good thing except for its timing!) perhaps you could have mentioned the impending sale in the Muscle Car Assist column in the Muscle Car Magazine.

Probably at that time you wouldn't have known.

Good luck with it.

What I did think of recently, was having a pro photographer do some shots of the car and perhaps get a story run in Unique Cars magazine. I notice now days due to the internet, the Unique Cars mag is half filled with articles rather then cars for sale.... Bit sad really, I remember as a young fella at school scanning through the black and white pages of a Unique Cars magazine, being blown away that a GT HO III could fetch $60-80k!!!!! hahahahahahahaha

Ive contacted a few photographers up this way, one guy who specializes in Auto photography to, but its just all to hard for them.... So there goes that idea.

And No Balls, if I had to take the car anywhere to sell, Id be trailering it myself. I dont like the idea of just handing it off to some transport company to deal with... thats just scary!!!!

I would be happy to help a serious buyer with airfares and things like that, I understand how hard it would be to venture all the way up here to hill billy land just to inspect a car. You never know what you might find??? Maybe just a bunch of drunks sittin under palm trees drinking beers?

Gumtree is free Brad, sold my 1998 VT SS Manual (Very Low K's) for $8000 thanks to there site, only annoying thing was txt's and  emails from overseas scammers, just don't worry about them, Car sales is great, my mate sold his rare coloured Super Mint Green A9X for $96,000 big one's on Car Sales, the buyer flew down looked and liked and payed for it and it went to Qld from here, so you never know, only need one buyer.

I sold my ute through Gumtree and didn't have to deal with any d!ckheads, but then it wasn't anything like your car Brad.

Personally I would put it on here first, anyone who is looking for a Torana or has a serious interest in them will come here for sure.

They may have already seen your build thread too which will help.

I did consider that, but I would want to guarantee that it would be sold during that time down there, otherwise Id have to trailer it back home again.... Perhaps if it has not sold in a years time, I could bring it down to Toranafest, then continue on to Shannons Auctions if it hadnt sold?

That would be my best suggestion. Advertise heavily in the lead up to Tfest this year, trailer down for the event, continue through to Shannons if still not sold.

At the very least, it gives you a place to meet with prospective buyers that enquire in the elad up to Tfest.

I'd start with Carsales as your first advertising point. Then look for any other forums or noticeboards you can advertise (club forums etc)

I'd also look at taking out an advert in the Unique Cars magazine, it still seems to be read by collectors.

Have you also thought about contacting the Torana clubs around Australia? I know in SA we have a newsletter that gets distributed to our members with for sale and wanted ads. If you could reach Torana enthusiasts that way too it might help

Hey mate, i've just recently sold my HT 350. Was on AMC for quite a while and didn't receive any calls from them (admitedly the car was obviously a bit high for the market) but what surprised me was no follow up with any feedback to see if i wanted to review the ad or price or anything.

Then spoken to Shannons and that was a real struggle. Wanted a decent size piece of the pie to sell it (about double AMC) which i could probably deal with but was the lack of service that got me. I was constantly ringing them, sending email and having to chase them while negotitaing to list it with them and got to the stage i felt like they didn't relly care and i was doing them a favour and all the work from my end..

Ended up putting it in Unique cars (with the hesitations of fielding calls and dealing with idiots) and must admit i had a good experience with it all. Just under a dozen calls, a couple that after speaking to you think are fairly serious buyers. Ended up a guy flew in looked at it and have received a deposit. Was not one person i though was a dreamer and one guy who told me up front he didn't want to buy the car but was rining to tell me how great it looked. Ended up having a good old chat with him about the old days and classic cars.

(Side note. Also sold another Monaro a few years back through the same mag, had a few people send me messages telling me i was dreaming at the price, had one guy fly in from QLD to look at it and another drove over from Perth and took it home with him.)

Main thing i made sure of was if someone is going to come that far they know every little thing there is to know about the car, its condition, where you are both sitting prices wise. Send them lots of pictures and details and be very accurate about its condition. It is nearly a given that with all that info if someone is going to travel interstate to look at it the sale should nearly be a foregone conclusion.

Hope this helps, best of luck with it.

Regards Jeff

Brad how far did you ring for photographers.

I know a young fella who is starting his own photography business but he lives in Mirani (just outside Mackay), i could ask him if he would be keen on travelling to Cairns if you still want professional pics.

I think he has a Facebook account for his photography, i will try to find it and post the link for you.

Found it, Rumblz Photography, there's a lot of people pics but if you keep looking there are quite a lot of cars, look through the photos not the albums cause the car pics are all over the place.

It's still worth advertising it here, people do lurk these forums looking for Toranas.

I was in an Ashfield Chemist recently and the guy behind the counter commented on my Toranafest t-shirt, he said he had an LH.  When I told him of this forum he said he visited it often when he was looking at buying a Torana.

I sold my GTR through this forum..again,id like to thank the forum for the opportunity to advertise my car through the website and it didnt cost me at all so again,it was much appreciated at the time.

Try it on here first,if the car is priced right,it will sell....i got 3 calls, all were serious...one came to see and bought it there and then.

For what its worth,i advertised a VN SV5000 on gumtree and got scammers and wholesalers bugging me so be ready for that.

I tried ebay and got no where, eventually sold on car point, car sales....i cant complain about ebay though, youll get a lot of exposure from it.

Just a word of advice, put up as many pics as possible and be very honest and accurate with your description as youre far away and no doubt a buyer will be going to go through a lot of trouble to see the car.

If i want in the middle of my HKGTS project,id be interested.....very interested.

Thats really great info there mate! Thank you very much. Do you know if, when its put into the Unique Cars mag online, does it also end up in the Magazine? Or are they two entirely different things????

I assume they are two different things but run by the same outfit so linked together. I think you can probably list it online by its self or just in the magazine. When i listed it in the mag they also then list it online for free. I took the view that there are many people out there that buy the mag just to have a flick through it and also read the stories at the front. It's also the type of mag that gets brought on boys weekends, holidays e.t.c and gets handed around with most blokes with any interest having a look through it. I think this is a lot wider audience than someone that has to go online specifically and then start searching through various websites looking for a particluar car. The fact that the mag gives you a free online ad means you have both bases covered.

I also agree with the above comments that i'd also list it here first as this being an enthusiest website you may find a buyer.

PS to list the ad you need to do it through        www.diyads.com.au

Sold a few nice vehicles in my time, not quite the standard of some of the above mentioned; but I think I have found something out as a technique.ITS YOUR CAR-so act like it is.Almost to the point of bluntness....you know what it is, you know what you have invested in it,you know what market you are selling to,so sell accordingly.

So many test pilots, dreamers, no hopers want to test drive your car, or go for a ride;you just gotta screen the crap out of applicants, and ,like I said, blunt never hurts when your bullshit alarm goes off.

The fair dinkum people with money and a genuine interest in your vehicle will get past that; the others wont.
