Hi everyone

Would somone be able to tell me what kind of outlet the muffler had on a1972 GTR,where they 2 straight or 2 slightly downturned

or 1 only downturned?

A photo would be great,so any different opinions on this. Would love to get it right before putting new exhaust system on.

Thank s

Ronnie

Does anyone make these dual curved pipe muffler? Or is this something I'll have to get custom made?

Thanks DMLC71 but I had a quick look and could only see the LC muffler. Please let me know if I'm wrong. Cheers. Marty

AFAIK , Brad only makes straight ones being the Xu1 style.

i have never seen a gtr muffler after market with the turn down pipes.

I recon they look shit anyway. just go the straight pipes marty. John K in our club has photos and details of the pipe measurments if you must persist with the standard muffler for the Lj GTR.

let me know and i can get some detailed photos and put up.

he may chime in with the details anyway.

Howdy Grant, I have all the pics from John and I like the turn down pipes. :-). Might have to take them into my exhaust guy and hopefully he can make. I remember buying a genuine GTR muffler in the late eighties for $100. Marty

For those that don't know, the GTR muffler is single outlet and the dual chrome tail pipes are a fork or Y type arrangement.

I think your wrong Dave. Two chrome droopy pipes out of the rear of muffler. Your thinking LC.

Hi

Going by the LJ parts catalogue, the diagrams show a similar twin outlet muffler design for both the GTR and XU-1. The mufflers have different part numbers so it appears that the inlet diameter of the muffler is smaller on the GTR version. This is indicated by the fact that the exhaust clamps and U bolts have different part numbers.

Cheers

Bazza

I could be wrong.

Back in the 80's my brother bought and put a genuine LJ GTR muffler on his LJ 4dr. Forked twin droopy chrome tail pipes same as LC.

Yes looks like the LC GTR muffler, however my brother got the LJ GTR muffler which I'm sure the tips were a bit further apart.

Maybe my memory is a bit scrambled (seems to be happening a bit lately) but I could swear the LJ GTR had the forked tips like the LC GTR.
