Hi,
This came up from a thread about a dodgy ebay seller,
but the point suits any situation of buying an engine,
Where can you get an engine number checked before buying it?

So am looking at buying a motor,
Do I go an see the local police,
and get them to check that is not listed as stolen
Or the state transport department
to see if it listed as still being in a registered car?

Any ideas?

Cheers
Chris.

I am in SA and have been to local Police station several times and asked them
to check engine number, they did not problem.
got caught once, only once.
put motor from LJ torana into my daughter's LX but when I went to reg
they said it was in a ute in South East and wanted police checks.
That was 16 yrs ago, would be worse now

In Victoria you ring VicRoads and they can do the check, although they charge you a fee for it. Vicroads seem to have a fee for everything nowadays

Hi,

In WA I just dropped into the Police station and they were happy to do the check free of charge, it all seemed too easy.
They were happy for once, good to see.

Cheers.
