Finally here are some pics of my new pride and joy.

it is a 1971 LC GTR

Original colour is Indy Orange.

You can see a bit of it coming through in a couple of the pics.

As far as I can tell this is an original Brisbane built GTR.

Tags and chassis number say it is, and I've checked quite a few of the tell tale signs and they all seem too suggest it is.

If anyone can confirm or deny from the pics, let me know.

Here's some pics at the previous owners place in Busselton.

This is a couple from when we got it home and squeezed it in the shed.

There will be more room soon because the black car is sold and will be gone once I pull the motor, and the maroon/primer coloured one is for sale.

I drove her out of the shed and gave her a wash this afternoon.

I found a few unpleasant surprises but that is to be expected I guess.

IMG_0677_zpsd957068b.jpg

The plan is to get her ready for rego asap and drive it around for a few years while I slowly fix up some bits and pieces and acquire parts for a proper resto.

Overall I think I've done pretty well, but it still requires a LOT of work.

Eventually it will go back to Indy orange, but the interior will probably go back to black rather than the original 40L - Black with orange houndstooth inserts. I can't find many pics of the orange houndstooth but the ones I've seen aren't that great. If anyone has any pics, please chuck em up because I'd hate to go straight black if the originals aren't too ugly.

The flares will stay for the near future at least, and most stuff will be staying the same for now.

Nice pick up Craig.

For starters I can see the GTR throttle bracket on the firewall and the GTR throttle lever behind the booster.

Has it still got the original 173s engine?

I reckon the orange inserts would look great. Have seen in the flesh and looks good. More interesting and 70s than plain black...everyone has a black interior. Nice car too.

good one.......while I do like original....those flares are so "period correct"..they look good too.
I remember there were heaps of LC/LJs with that look back in the day.

Hi Craig, love the thread title, thought it might not happen.
I really like the houndstooth inserts but in the black and white. The orange looks a bit off or faded.
Indy orange is awesome colour, did it have a stripe? I know you like them.
Not a fan of the flares but only cause I prefer original looking cars. I have a drivers guard lip you can have if you want to start collecting them?
Your shed looks fun, three of them. Cheers Marty

Nice pick up Craig.

For starters I can see the GTR throttle bracket on the firewall and the GTR throttle lever behind the booster.

Has it still got the original 173s engine?

Cheers Dave.

It has a 179 HP, its had at least two motors since the original that I know of.

How do you know it had a 173s?

Nice pick up there Potts, are you coming on the run tomorrow? I have a spare seat if you need a lift.

Nah not tomorrow, I wanna get my shed sorted so I can get this thing on the road :spoton:

Cheers for the offer though.

I don't know if it had the stripe or not Marty. When it was restored back in the 80's it was already linamint and had rally stripes.

I will probably put stripes on it cause I am a bit of a fan.

I'm thinking I might make the flares a bit bigger, sort of like this;

thebeast_zpsf19c30ac.jpg

Haha, just kidding.

Sounds like orange houndstooth is popular but I'm still on the fence.

I'll keep an eye out for it now and decide later, there's no rush really.

Thanks for all the kind words guys.

It looks better in the pics, but then I guess they usually do.

It had a 173s cause it's a late 1971 GTR.

It had a 173s cause it's a late 1971 GTR.

Cheers'

Dave.

Correction, it is not a late 1971 build GTR and therefore would have been fitted with a 161s engine, not a 173s.

Any idea what carbs it should have Dave?

I'm guessing it would have had an Opel box too?

Maybe.

I was told this one originally had an Opel but it kept breaking.

Yep that sounds about right.

173s engines had the Aussie M20 4spd.

161s engines had the Opel M20 4spd.
