Thanks Dave...

I figure the dowels in the bell housing will do the trick there... you are right about the bolts though... I have a set for a earlier bellhousing and they have a shank on them... they just too short to use with this bellhousing so I got a set of normal bolts...

Cheers

Hey Eric when you say clutch rattle what do you mean? Do you mean like a squealing sound? I have only had my car back a few months with a completely rebuilt engine, gearbox and new clutch. It seems to be developing a squealing noise mainly when its cold. Not sure where its coming from at this stage but definitely either the clutch or the gearbox.

Well.. it is more of a rattle... it sounded like a loose bolt type of rattle.. def not a squeal... does it go away when you put a bit of pressure on the clutch? Im thinking maybe thrust bearing? Also check that the thrust bearing is free to spin on the pressure plate, you maght have the clutch nipped up to tight on the adjustment...

My rattle ended up being that ring inside the pressure plate...

Doesnt do it all the time but it was as bad as it has been this morning, seemed to do it whenever I selected reverse, 1st or 2nd. It only happens when the clutch is engaged which makes me think it has something to do with the throwout bearing too. Car is at the mechanics overnight getting a few other things done and the mechanic is going to have a look at it tomorrow.

Agree sounds a lot like throwout bearing noise.

I'll ask the mechanic to pay particular attention to the throwout bearing tomorrow. Any idea what to look for? Obviously it should spin nice and freely but shouldnt have any sideways movement. Anything else?

I havent tried this mechanic before so his quality is unknown. Unfortunately my usual mechanic is booked for the next month and there were a few jobs that needed to be done asap.

Hi all...

Well, after finishing my other project... Im back to getting the engine done... However... that bloody clutch rattle is back!!

The plan this time is when I put the new engine in, I am going to go with the larger WB onwards flywheel and clutch set up. I dont know why this clutch rattle keeps coming up or the cause. I can only hope that changing the flywheel and clutch will fix it.... process of ellimination...

Will keep you posted...

Cheers
