A narrower track would have to be from wider wheels with more positive offset, the diff itself won't be narrower.

Let us know if you do find a simple solution.

Spot on. Many years ago I converted my 4Cyl VC Commodore to 6 cylinder power. I decided to keep the "Torana" stud pattern and fit Volvo 15" alloys to the car.

To do this I simply fitted the 6 cylinder Commodore diff with the 4 cylinder axles. Later we fitted the 4 cylinder diff to a mates 4.2 litre VC. To do that we fitted the V8 axles, backing plates and discs to the 4 cylinder housing and swapped the uni joint yoke.

That made for a pretty rapid 253 Commodore.

FWIW the 4 cyl Commodores had the same diameter front rotors as the 6 and V8 Commodores and even the same pads it's just that the rotors were solid not vented.

The only difference between 4 cyl and 6 cylinder Commodore rear brakes is the stud pattern on the drum itself.

I was pretty sure that the 4 cyl cars had the smaller drums but now I'm doubting myself, maybe just some of them? Pretty easy way to get rid of left over Torana brakes when the stud pattern is near enough to slip the drum over

The front brakes on the 4cyl Commodores were actually LH-UC rotors. They are about 15mm smaller in diameter than the normal VB-VK 6cyl and V8 rotor. I think the only difference is the thread on the wheel studs. Rear drums are the same size as 6cyl, just the stud pattern is different. Not much bigger than standard LH-UC Torana/Sunbird drums anyway.

Axles finally arrived today - Yeeehah !!!

Splines and threads on studs look ok. Checked them on my VP Calais wheels and they look good. I was worried they might actually turn out to be HQ pattern. The studs are very long so I'd say they were used with spacers on standard Commodore offset wheels.

He was also selling an LSD banjo centre so I guess he has invested in a BW or 9 inch.

I'll order some bearings and take them over to my mates place to use his press to fit them. Then I'll just need some early Commodore rotors, some early rear brake drums and I'm away.

And I'll probably get my UC calipers rebuilt. I don't think the dunking in the Burnett River has done them much good. I've got 2 sets of HX / Z PBR calipers so I can take the best of the pad slides off those.

And I might get onto the Photo bucket trip tonight if I remember. I've been taking heaps of shots so I should start a build thread.
