Hey Guys

I have just had my car checked over for a blue slip in NSW, all good, except that the inspector could not locate the chassis number on the chassis, I had a look and haven't be able to find it, so I have two questions.

1 Does anyone know where the chassis number is stamped into the chassis, is it in a standard location? and
2 If there is no number stamped what do RTA in NSW do about it.

I'm thinkinh that it has probably been painted over

Cheers

Rob

RH rail, near the pollution canister read from the side of the car, from left (drivers seat) to right (radiator support). Should start with something like ALX0, BLX0 or CLX0, same as your complaince plate. If the RTA can't find it, they may make you stamp in a new number

Chassis number should be on the panel where the charcoal cannister sits.
(front drivers side)

Someone else will be able to answer what NSW does about these things.

Cheers

Drivers side, inside engine bay, look down in that corner & you will find it jus behind the headlight.

Find part of the number & get some fine sandpaper & rub over it will reveal you chassis number.

If you cant see any number in place I have specified, try the fine sandpaper in that area I am sure it will be there.

let us know how you go

checked the area, there is nothing, but is has been repainted, so I guess I'll get to find out the answer to the second question.

try stripping it back to bare metal in that section.

I know on the uc hatch i have here the engine bay has been painted many times, and with primer, layers of paint etc it fills in the stamping.

It will almost gaurentee be there unless for some reason that section has been cut out.

yeah if its not under the paint youll have to front RTA and prove the car is legit and then they or the cops will SMASH a new number in for ya.

i say SMASH because thats litterally what ive seen some number jobs come out like.

Yeah i had the same problem as ROBLX but with 1 difference
the original number had been ground out by car thieves but
the Victorian police place a body number on the rail in front
of No 3 spark plug(v8)
cheers Keith

thanks for the replies, you had me in the right area, it wasn't until i removed the overflow bottle next to the radiator that I found it.

All good, the Blueslip is done.

The number is forward close to the radiator.

Again thanks guys

I have never been able to find my chassis number, even after sanding back that area previously mentioned on the rail.
It does look like the inside lip of the rail has been bent over to fit a wider radiator though. Im guessing its on that part which has been bent over?
A bit awkward to get to without taking the radiator out.
