As for the handbrake cable/spring; hold the ball with a normal set of pliers/multigrips and wedge a set of side cutters between the ball and spring, then without clamping the cable slide the side cutters up the cable, pushing the spring, (will need to pull back on the multi's) then when you've gone far enough clamp the cable to hold the spring.

I was hoping for an easier answer Carmelo lol. I can see this will be fun trying to get the spring back far enough with only 2 hands. I think the vice grips will come in handy for this job and I might have to buy some sidecutters as I haven't got any.

Hopefully Datto will know where that springs goes?

Haha yeah its easier shown rather then explained.

Yeah you could do it with vice grips, just same process, use the grips to slide the spring up the cable then clamp.

Set of side cutters cant hurt :) Knipex are the go for pliers if you can find them.

Could be Datto I pulled the pistons out of the wheels cylinders before I pulled them out. I didnt even see these springs spring out lol just found them on the concrete with everything else.

I have got no doubt your right Datto. If you look at these springs they are very clean and the rest are rusty and dirty as shit. If I cant put these together tomorrow with all this help I should just give away working on this car.

Thanks guys.

Well finally finished the shoe change on the rear this afternoon. I reckon it took me 2 1/2 hours to do one side and 20 minutes to do the other lol.

Came across 2 problems. The small sleeve that goes into the plate below wouldnt go in properly. I found the hole in the brake shoe wasnt big enough so I had to drill it out to a bigger size. The other problem I had was I put the bottom spring on the wrong way initially so the adjustment wheel wasnt being held by the spring. After some cursing and swearing I got it on the right way.

I just wish the first brake change was as easy as the second, especially since I managed to stab myself in the thumb with the screwdriver. Hopefully someone will find my problems helpful when they do a change.

Well maybe I havent got the bottom adjustment springs in the right way. Was having a close look at the spring and I have put it in thinking the spring holds the adjustment wheel in place but looking closely at it seems the bottom of the galvanised plate holds the adjustment wheel in place. Can someone clarify this for me?

If someone is confused I am talking about the spring below. I have put them in with the hump section of the spring against the adjustment wheel, I am sure I have done it wrong.

Done the bleeding today. I cant believe how much of a different feel on the pedal there is. Before the pedal was nearly to the floor under hard braking but now it probably only travel half the distance. Thanks especially to Datto for the tip on the oversize brake shoes.

Still have a bit of trouble with the left front caliper locking on a bit under hard braking but that is another issue.
