G'day All

Picked up these 3 HDT jackets and the blue/white one is VL (1987) but I am unsure of what year the other 2 are  :dontknow:

All have hoods in the collar

Any ideas

The red and white Marlboro ones are mid to late 70's era - 76/77. Don't know exact years they started and finished.

Barry, the first one is 1976, the second is 1979, the last one is the same as the jackets used in 87, but i can't see any patches or markings on it?

regarding the second jacket with the TAA patch................

In 1986, they rebranded in a major way, becoming Australian Airlines with the purchase of Boeing 737-376s. In the early 1990s, they merged with Qantas, becoming the domestic arm of the Qantas we know today.

Thus it must be pre 86-87,   and  as RED said.......

Thanks Red  :spoton:

I've been looking for a HDT Jacket to suit the era of my "76" SS but I will have to lose a bit more weight to wear it

AND the VL jacket only has the HDT tag inside at the top and no patches.

AND it fits WELL  :spoton:

The 79 jacket "just" fits.

The wardrobe is getting full

Thanks fellas & 3 jackets at a good price makes old Pop very happy

Barry

Correct, I was working for Ansett at the time, a shame it's long gone.

Barry, my jacket is same as the middle one with the TAA patch on it. It was new in 1977 so should go fine with your 76 hatch.

  Top jacket Howard  :spoton:

I've got 6 HDT jackets now but only 3 will fit me.

Better work on getting that ^^^^^ figure bigger and my figure smaller.

See that Harry's signed that one  :spoton:

Had 2 hrs at Harry's place last Wednesday after getting off the Spirit of Tasmania from our Torana Tassie Tour.

At 95 + 7 months, he's still doing alright  :clappin:

Hey Barry

Great jackets, you are Mr Memorabilia.
When you were talking to Harry last week, did he mention how his Torana book was progressing? It was a work in progress when I spoke to him a couple years ago at the Muscle Car Masters. I know you would have been talking Toranas with him.

Cheers

Book is still not done yet but should be out in 2014 and that 1hr and 48 minutes with Harry was pure magic.

Harry told me that his heart was still "strong" but I could clearly see that the rest of him is not all that good but at 95 & 1/2, I could only wish I can reach that far.

As most know, Harry certainly doesn't miss a beat when it comes to making a dollar or two and when we offered to pay him for his time which for me was priceless, he simply said "just buy a poster will do"

David and Brett did but when I said that my missus had been sitting out in the car for that almost 2hrs, he showed me a "dilly bag" that he had had made and said get her one of these. And I did.

A "dilly bag" is a cloth bag that girls had back in the 50's & 60's in which they would carry stuff, much like a handbag.

These dilly bags were made from "T" shirts that Harry got printed up but the printing came out lop-sided on the shirt so they were fashioned into bags like this

AND they are hand signed   :spoton: by him.

Measures 30cm wide x 32cm tall

Harrys-Dilly-bag.jpg

Gotta hand it to the ol' fella  :deal:

Bugga the missus using it, I will  :spoton:

Harry spoke on many things and his views on Peter's demise was interesting.

AND on Harry's set up, that was also very interesting.

Barry

PS At TAFE tonight where our car club hires the Automotive rooms, the fella who gave me the FJ Service Manager dust coat gave me another one which I will put up soon so someone might be able to tell me the era it came from.

Mal said it might be from the 70's or 80's

Harry was writing that book when I was there in 2006. He showed me some various bits and pieces he had there and handed me a few things. The mind was still sharp, but he's very frail.

Spoke to Harry this arvo and he has a book coming out in June next year called "The Complete HDT Story" and starts with the Monaros in 1969 and goes through to the light weight A9X

He said it is a BIG book

As Red said, Harry is very frail and when we were there Wednesday of last week, he could only stand for a few minutes and he had a chair lift to take him up the stairs to the top room of his shed where we had our talk with him.

Can you elaborate on this?

In case it is part of his book - even an explanation such as 'philisophical' or 'inevitable' maybe?

On Peter's demise and it is somewhat the same as I was thinking.

Peter travelled from England's Goodwood Speed event to the east coast of Australia and then back over Australia to Perth on the west coast.

From England to Australia through so many time zones and then back over another 2 time zones in the time he had, would have been taxing on anyone's body time clock.

Peter was so gracious in giving his time and the fact I would believe he did not so "no" to many that asked of his time, was partly to blame as well as the "jet lag" or as Harry put it, travelling through so many time zones.
