hi guys,

has anyone toyed with or even gone through with trying to (or succesfully) bolted on a front end for an LJ LC instead of it being a weld on?

i have been thinking of running a line of bolts with washers up the inner gutter rail instead of spot welding them back together.

obviously the a piller gap will still have to be welded up but that is the only part.

would it pass an engineer?

any input would be great.

cheers

Great idea, never heard of anyone doing it, that's how it should of been done in the first place, what were they thinking back in the day

I think it would be a bit floppy.

wont work..most of the strenght is in the welded front guards.. when playing with the cars.. as I do.. Its pretyy easy to move the front clip to get in place/gaps/alignment when just tacked to gether, as you weld in place it become rock solid..

And its a carry over from the Viva...

Probably very defectable as well as not per factory specs.

My opinion anyway..

yes i have my doubts about it being road worthy. they should have done it from factory, why would they not bolt on the front?

any ways all good. thanks fellas.

always nice to have input on an idea like this.

cheers

Bolting the front panels (guards and nose cone) on is possible, it has been done, it is solid, not floppy, and may/may not be roadworthy.

looks like i may have to do a little more research. i would love to have a bolt on front for my LJ. would like the look of the bolts running up the gutter.

i have contemplated doing this before, i see no problems with the guard tops or even the inner pillars as you can use nutsert  tool but the big problem is were the guard hits the nose ends, what would or could you do there,,, mabe only make the front in one piece and bold along the top of radiator support panel and up under the tabs

Spot on John, one piece front, weld and fill the nose cone to guard joints.

I've seen single piece walk off glass fronts on ljs so I don't see why you couldn't make a steel one. You'd just make some extra braces for the inner guard and radiator support areas
