Brake problem:
Brake are far too touchy! its really soft like there is no feeling, then suddenly whamo! the brakes go on, or even lock up!
I was told it could be a problem with the master cylinder, so i replaced that. Still exact same problem. all brakes have been properly bleeded, brakes where excelent before i striped the car down. brake pedal hasnt been taken out.
i have not touched the proportioning valve thingy ever, although i have taken out the booster and master to spray my bay.
Has anyone had this problem? i know in my previous thread some members said they have this problem, how did you guys fix it?
Brake pads are $10 ones off ebay.
any help is grealty appeciated,
Thanx!

Sounds like the reaction disc has fallen out of the booster

Thanx dattoman!

I said the reaction disc may have fallen out
If so then it needs to be refitted in the correct spot in the booster
It can dislodge when the master cylinder is removed
You need to check this first and see if thats the issue.
Its a round 20c piece sized piece of rubber about 4mm thick that goes in the centre of the booster. Pullt he master out the way. Pullt the front seal and ushrod out and see if its stuck to the pushrod or still in the centre of the booster.
If you can't see the black disc go buy a VH2013 reaction disc. Might pay to get a VH2015 front seal and replace that while your at it.
V8 double banger booster will not improve the braking. It will make it easier to apply the pedal (in regard to amount of foot pressure needed)

iv just been told that pulling down a brake booster is the hardest thing to do on a torana in the shed. thats why i jumped to replacement,
ill chek it out tomorow,
yea thats what i thought, the v8 booster will just make it easier for people with chicken legs. more booster touque could just make it easier to lock up there for being a bad thing for a 6cy. hmmm who knows, ill stick to the standard!
thanx heaps!

Can the reaction disk dislodge itself without messing with the Booster (removing or dismantling the booster) cos my booster looks like it's never left the firewall.

Replace that front seal while you have it out and lube the rod up with rubber grease...... not normal grease or petroleum jelly
Looks to me like the reaction disc is missing from the booster pic
It looks to me that I can see steel in the centre where I should see rubber.... a straight on pic would have been better
I'd say the disc has dislodged and you need to replace it

my disk fell inside the booster, when i repainted it. Look for it in there ( have to remove booster from firewall, turn around so brake vacuum port is at the bottom and shake ) if its in there youll see it. Pulling it out of there is the fun part ( took me an hour with long nose pliers )
best of luck

It goes in that round bit where the metal circle is
You don't "need" to get the old one out
Its just a bit of rubber floating around in there and can't really cause any damage
If your paranoid you can try though

which side does the knob go onto?
cheers,
also where does the seal sit on the push rod? up at the opening or further in there.

put some rubber grease on the rod so its tacky and holds the disc while you put it in......
The front seal goes on the outside of the cannister in the recess
Close to the master cylinder end of the rod
