I am trying to fit a B& M shifter onto a manualized trimatic and I'm having trouble getting the linkage to fit on the box.  I bought the adaptor for this off Ebay as I was told the original linkage doesn't work (and it doesn't). However the adaptor hits on the transmission tunnel when going back as well. I'm using the original crossmember  and the transmission appears to be in the correct position so I was hoping someone here could give me an idea.

What model Torana, More than likely will need to "modify" transmission tunnel with an F.B.H. as it's an American aftermarket shitfa you're attempting to fit......

What model torana? what side is the trimatic selector on? what B&M shifter are you using? pics? i know there are brackets to suit either the left or right side of a trimatic early are on the drivers side later on the passenger side

The car is a UC with a 5 litrhave a sport shifter which has a rear fitting cable and the trimatic selector is on the LH side. 064_zpsb80aee12.jpge.I <a href="http://s1059.photobu...e7ad8b.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="https://cache.gmh-to...zpsebe7ad8b.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo 055_zpsebe7ad8b.jpg"/></a>

055_zpsebe7ad8b.jpg sorry the first photo was the fix i came up with for the linkage. This photo shows the problem. Now the bracket holding the cable doesn't fit onto the trimatic and is no where near where it should fit so its modifing time again. Also the cable has to go under the tailshaft so I'm convinced that I will never go with this setup again. I'll stick to a manual next time.

I run the alloy pan on mine as well and had to mod the bracker.

It fitted fine with the stock steel pan.

I lso had issues getting it ti seal around the bracket with the alloy pan, and ended up fitting o rings in the recess for the cap head bolt under the bracket to fix it.

Basically, your pan is the problem there.

No idea about the clearance to the tunnel, heaps of room in my lj.

Nothing funny going on with the mounts making it sit high is there?

Cheers.

On a side note- make sure to keep the cable away from the (HOT) exhaust.

The bellhousing was especially made for the trimatic. It really is a well built housing and no adaptors for the turbo block. I'm going to modify the bracket to make it fit. its not a big one just annoying that the bracket and linkage i bought wasn't even close to working. The B&M sport shifter appears to be the only B&M that has a rear facing cable.  I'm not sure about the height of the gearbox but i have a standard crossmember and rear mount. I can't lower it any further because the dizy will come very close to hitting the firewall if i do.

I am going to weld at the arrow and this will be my new bracket. The silver plate is the bracket that comes with the shifter which i cut off and then drilled a new hole through both brackets and this fits and I should be able to fit the cable hopefully.

The shifter came with a linkage like yours but it won't fit with a trimatic. The shaft out of the box doesn't come out very far so the linkage hits the box.

I used a B&M Pro Ratchet shifter on a Tri-matic that was originaly from a VL, so the selector was on the passenger side. I bought a B&M to Tri-matic bracket kit through Rocket & it was a PITA to set up. I'm not 100% certain, but I think the distance the linkage on the trans has to travel to select the correct position is greater than what the shifter provides, I could get it to select all forward gears, neutral & reverse, but it wouldn't select Park. I got it sorted in the end, but selecting reverse occasionaly meant double shifting while holding the reverse lock out up. Another thing I remember is it only took one shift motion to select Park, whereas the same shifter fitted to a TH350 in my other Torana needs a double tap to select Park. Good luck with it & hope you get it sorted.

The one shift to select park compared to a TH box is normal. TH boxes have more travel from teh detent in the box to get to park.

Mines still "squishy" getting into park, all the other gears are clean though, and i gets into park so im content. I do agree though it could do with further fettling, and its on the bucket list.

Cheers.

the whole setup was $2500 I think  the bellhousing itself was about $700 dollars on its own.
