played with the door gaps today, welded a length of 2mm rod to the edge of the guard to try and close the gap, turned out alright, will need a bit more grinding etc but much better, finished welding the rhs door hinges now, door will be next on the list. Last of the holes welded in the dash and started the filling.

not much done lately, put engine back together, just re ringed it and full gasket set, heads looked good and pressured tested well, has big valves so that's a bonus, should run nice, just need to work out what to do with the engine mounts, Any ideas? as it has modified mounts to suit the chev, and they are to far back compared to the standard lj mounts, fixed the rust in the drivers door yesterday, wasn't to bad,

had a bit of time today to muck around with the torry, decided to weld up the antenna hole as I probably wont have a stereo anyway, started tidying up the engine bay, put the bolts back in to locate the front x member,  getting the guard to rocker on the l.h.s right, finally got the door pin out of the lhs door, what a job that was, had to use oxy and hammers etc, the door jam on the right is finally done and will be putting the door back on after the jam and door have been painted inside. lhs door has a few issues that I will fix soon. not much else done but something is better than nothing I suppose.

Been busy lately so not much done, got the drivers door squared away and started smoothing the gaps etc, pulled the 9 inch centre out, had it checked over, all good it's a 3.5 lsd, fitted new gasket and re-installed it, it also has 28 spline axles, sure its strong enough for my set up, welds under the new floor pans all smoothed over also, engine bay done, mostly just waiting for primer, will do most of it in one hit, will start on the left door tomorrow, need to sought out what to do about the clutch mechanism, will a rat trap fit with the 253 in it? or should I go hydraulic? the bellhousing is push type early 70's I think. feels better to see it back on the ground again though.

Hi Greg, I'd use the hydrolic clutch setup. Simpler and more reliable. Smaller too

started around the rear window and lhs door gaps etc, also made up a sliding tool to adjust door edges, works a treat.  as usual I seem to sand off more than stays on the car, sign of an amateur I suppose,

Hi, Dunno if you have already sorted out freight. If not try www.e-go.com.au, I had a gearbox shipped from Perth to Melbourne a couple of months ago for $70

Hi all, back into it. big change of plans, going to go from v8 to hot 202, bought all the gear, about to rebuild the "208" small question, will the 3.3 crank fit in a 72 202 block? also the main caps off the 3.3 fit the older block? any other differences I should know about, also running a celica 5sp. I have all the old clutch plate etc, is it all genuine holden or is it celica plate and holden pressure plate etc, all advice appreciated.

Greg, just started reading your forum and you're doing a great job. I'm a bit of a novice in the car resto game but am learning heaps along the way. I have just had a Blue 3.3 re-coed by an engine builder and we took the best bits from a red 202 and the commodore motor so I did the opposite to what you are doing by fitting a red crank into the blue motor. I believe some people fit internals from a blue/black 3.3 (better crank, rods ect) in a red 202 so that it still looks like the old red motor from the outside, therefore I can't see why 3.3 crank/mains wont fit your HQ block. Maybe speak to a local engine builder or post a Q & A under technical forum (Engine) as there are some very knowledgeable and helpful people out there. Hope this helps and good luck with your project, will watch with interest how things go.

Hi Shane, I came across a period correct 202 in good nick, its at ranch engineering as we speak, going out 60" I bought hypatec flat tops, hastings rings etc, have a nicely modded yella terra head, so in the end it should go well, just need to work out what cam to use, crow recommend a 40/80 but that sounds a bit big,i think the car will go better with a hot 6 than the 253 and its more original.

Should go well harder than a 253.

Ran 40/80 grind cam `in old 202 triple webbers,nicely ported xu1 head,m20 & 3.9 gears with sprintmasters.

Car was damn quick/fun streeter back then.Needed those gears to keep it drivable/usable....lit up the tyres like it was a joke.
