thanks steve, was discussing with wayne 2 elcs on the weekend - good to see you down there wayne appreciate your racing advice. we discussed adjusting the rear shocks to have less dampening and put a but more in the front shocks. OR just re fit the front sway bar which im not that convinced about but will flatten out the car - which may make the rear to hard as the car will be more " flatter" in the turn - so  a bit more on this

I think that fitting the sway bar will have a instance effect, but may not allow the back to sit down, by the looks of those photos it may be that the front dampening gets a few turns first and then i'll see. it turns in really good at the moment and goes where i need it to go, wakefield is a pretty bumpy and tight track - next hit out will be EC so they have a long and sweeping corner.

need a new set of tyres as well.

PS i didn't have the head space to get my go pro chinese ripoff going - but man would i loved to see that footage of the yellow mustang attack with a few extra hp and a cheap torana race car, I think he now knows my name or could be the flapping red electrial tap coming off the head lights  . LOL

there really good photos - i'll have to get a FB account

Just one thing with your spacers that is worth thinking about.

I was picked up by the scrutineers a while ago now because the spacers the same as yours were not attached to the hub. They required me drill and tap them to the hub so that if ever a wheel was to come off (God forbid) then the spacer would not become an extra missile/ fast flying frisbee that might hit some poor unsuspecting spectator or flaggie.

hardly col, pin up is not working on the car whilst standing in a pristine white race suit with  a few chicks either side  & one your having a bit on the side with as your missus is raising the three kids.

I was having a bit of a go and sleeping in a 45 buck a night hotel at Gollburn where by they had shut the lower bar down

had no pedal in R 2 and had to bleed for R3 and then again for R4-5 6

it's a bloody good shot through - I remember looking over and seeing Seth and thinking - fAAWRK the brake fluid probably when all over him.

I have always thought that his photos were the best as it captured the events of the people and the issues that happen at a race meet.

keeping a car on the track is part of the weekend - it's not all beer and skittles !!!

After this i changed Dave Floods broken axle, dangerous Dave pumped the big 202 off the line and it didn't like the punishment

the three heaps of  toranas that entered the weekend were;

  • Dave flood - green xu1- NC
  • Phill hoad - white xu1 - regularly
  • Dave ellis - sort of light green metailic lc - xu1 - regularity
  • rod wallace - red xu1 - NC
  • noel bryant - green and yellow roof xu1 - nc
  • john wright - white nc
  • warrent wright nc
  • ---- yellow xu1 - from queensland
  •

Missing in action was;

col the colonel   newcastle weapon driving the white knight entry from negus motors - don't get mistaken with Sanders !!!

steve AKA the dodge - driving the  yellow dolly - harry first special " macu Lc xu1 "

will be good to have a catch up.

car ran well apart from the brakes issue and not enough pedal.-  which is good,

Peter,

for once everything went well. The car ran well and strong all weekend. My quickest time was a 1.53.8 and rang most consistently at 1.54 most of the weekend.

Chased grip with the new Toyo r888 R tyres.

so we put the front sway bay back on and this balanced the car out, and took some of the over steer out of the car. this was the last day and I should have done this on the first day.

then we started to play with the bump and rebound on the shocks at the rear only but this was really too late in the weekend. But was still competitive and ran with other well seasoned torana's .

tried to get the go pro working but F#$%ked up so no footage dudes .

rang toyo today and discussed the tyres with the technical department about pressures and the tyres  and got some info.

we started running the tyres @ 30 ish hot and then the tyre bloke said 34 hot - so we sort of went from one extreme to the other, but at least I have a bit of direction now or better idea of what needs to happen.

the car is quick I just need it to go round the corners better from here on in.

Most people had the similar issue with grip.

good racing all weekend and it was good to have minimal issues.

http://racing.natsof...9.87W/Result?31

I'm going to frame this as it's not every day you get to race with glenn seaton, craig wall, john bowe - I looked up a Glenn seatons comaro on the grid in front of me and saw the size of the tyres and the number plate comaro 427 ltr and thought " what hope have i got "

great weekend had all round.

Nice work Grant.......as I said, take a few of the big $$ cars out, and you are definately at the right end.

What happened to both of the Wright boys??....unusual they dropped off/out..they are normally very good.

not sure but warrens car was off very early and then Johns car got a black flag so not sure.

It was pretty funny me a steve ( dodgy) trying to work out which way to make the suspension adjustments - it was a bit like the blind leading the blind at one stage - but it was good to have Steve and also Tom his son to help with this area and we did make head way in the right direction but just ran out of time to continue the adjusting.

I will say that the guy Greg Luca had a very basic set up 2 " SUs but man that car could go and also go round corners - made my engine bay look Hi Tech !!

So are you on the new toyo r888r?

yep - and lets say that it has it's challenges and is really good for 4 laps and then falls off really quick.

I soke to the toyo rep at lenght and he gave me some insights - you really need to start tunning the car around tyre.

what tyre do you run ?

Yep, agree 100%. All tyres, and especially R Spec track tyres are very different to the tyres that were available when these cars were designed and built. So the car needs to be set up to take advantage of the grip modern tyres provide. Decide what tyre you want to run then set up the car to suit. I reckon you should give the Yokohama A048 (soft) a try.

Car looks beaut!

I've moved to the toyos just prior to the v8 round in may. They performed amazing straight out of the box on a wet/greasy track all weekend. Last meeting they seemed to hold up really well. Still not played too much with pressures as was chasing my arse all weekend! All in all I'm impressed with them.

My mate over here in another Torry has found the soft ao48 far quicker tyre than the med ao48 but struggle to survive.. good qualifying and wet tyre!

I think the Ao48 softs are the go, but i think that as i have stiffened up the suspension the shocks need to be backed off a lot more to allow the back to be softer, it's getting to a point where the tyre is scrubbing on the inner guard.

the next step is to raise the ride height- keep the springs as per the current poundage ( so they dont rub as bad ) at full depression and back off the dampening to Zero - then work back from there.

thats the plan B

steve,

yep you would have first hand visual of the lack of drive, I do remember one " tank slapper " as they say in bike racing, there should be a set of two black lines with fish hooks at the end up at turn 12 somewhere

I just feel lucky for being able to be out there enjoying being part of day, there was 13 torana's at the start.

they are such a great little race car, and if you build them correct pretty reliable - so long as you don't go over 7K

most blokes don't rev the car past this mark and focus on torque upto this range.

If you drag race i may be different for the rev range.

Have you ever considered Noosa hill climb. A great days racing, sadly there were only 2 LC,J Toranas. The challenging, narrow and tight track can be a good equaliser.

well the rocket has been parked up for a while with the spare tyres in the front seat.

FFS- thats for F@#$#K Sake - the letter before B and after C has died on the key board so where you see a # that means it's the letter which has left me in the last couple of days to really think of how many words the " # " is in and i will run though a few !!!

#olcano

Li#e

#aried

#arious

#ery

#ul#a

#igina

sil#er

#ictor

#axhaul

#ehical

anyway the project goes on, i need to get the rocket regoed on historic plates and need to do a few things;

  • replace headlights
  • put back in seat belts front and back
  • put standard tyres on - which is a pain as i need to steal off the gtr which means i need to paint the sil#er undercoated ones and then put some old race tyres on and swaparooney
  • want to buy a new steering wheel and put the " quick release adapter on "

really want to paint the floor as well as it looks untidy in some POR - that stands for Poor Old Rooster - if you get it on your hands.

the side pipe is being ignored as well as the front bars that go down from the half cage, the 5 castor and 5 camber is also being not looked at .

I think that the modified  #ehical rego just got signed off in NSW so this has made things a  bit easier.

a trip to hardly normal tomorrow to pick up a new key board as well

put my entry in for Bathurst 2017 6 hour   hour support historic  racing again and hopefully I'm going with my A game

G

Good to read an update.

I have booked a camp site for Easter Bathurst. Does your A game get you accommodation in town or are you camping again.

No Regularity this year, but Tom is pit-crewing for a production car in the 6 hour. So between his antics and yours, should be a good weekend.

The RMS has released a Classic Vehicle Scheme - Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for conditional registration of modified vehicles that are more than 30 years old.

There are several hoops to jump through to have a vehicle accepted in the scheme (I have attached a snapshot from the document below). Unlike the "H" number plates for Historic vehicles the Classic vehicles will have to display conditional style rego plates (which are full size plates with green letters and a "C" prefix the same ugly ones you seen on forklifts & tractors & plant equip).

If your car is engineered under the old scheme (prior to jan 31 2102) and the rego papers include the engineers certificate number the RMS may accept the vehicle into the scheme (if not good luck as the vehicle will be subjected to the new VSCCS certification scheme).

Best to read entire document:

Col,

it's just each tow is $80 and also it's good to dri#e and be able to take it on the roads legally. once it's slipped once then it will be a change o#er car from #ictoria , it's probably not been registered for at least 30 years.

It's a fi#e minute dri#e to brook#ale and on a main road and i ha#e been doing it for a while now and there is bound to be a time where i get caught.

ah ha......

very, very interesting. I guess once you vow to get your vehile validated, then you shouldnt become a victim some of vicious, vacuous vulture with a V8 .

You could then vere off in your valuable vehicle ( with a visible front and rear valance)., and get some valuable brownie points by getting the veggie, vacuum bags and vegimite.

p.s.  Brookvale?...isnt that where various Valiants ( but not Volvos or Vauxhall Vivas ) are viewable at Tilleys?

Sorry if the above is a bit vauge.
