Hi,

Have a fairly thirsty LJ , looking to replace the 10 gall. tank with a repro 17 gall, as haven't seen any good second hand ones around?

Not looking for what is perfectly concourse, as the LJ isn't anyway....just views on what is on offer in the repro market.

Rares

Brad M

Parts Clone-er

Always would like to support Rares, as they actually sponsor this forum, however unsure if theirs are baffle as per orig?

There seems to be a serious price range between some of them?

Also, am I to understand there are 3 different factories making these things?...or are they all ex same Factory anyway ?

Thanks for any advice.

I tried to support rears, but paying $200 extra than what I could get mine off of eBay was just silly.

Good Thread Col,

I seem to remember a flap to stop the fuel going up the fill tube,

and Datto said the other night about getting a Forum Discount for Members here, at Rares Spares too.

Havnt had a close look at the repro but as far as the baffling, the spot

welds should give you some indication. Baffle runs lengthwise, below pic is for the

L & R braces.

Attached File  Tank5Baffle.jpg   339.36K   7 downloads

Only pic I've got in the PC, if I knew how to drive my phone I'd send you pics of the

others.

Theres 3 on the RH & LH sides, 7 odd up the front, 1/2 doz on the

underside (between the center & lh rib), another 4 on the angle toward the rear

& 4 up the backside.

These are off my 73 XU tank, all in the lower 1/2 & I spose

number of spots could vary.

Whats this "flap" you speak of DAVE? must be something else I havnt found yet

.

J

Good info there Jono, about the spot welds,

I will have a scout around for the Flap bit, I read it somewhere, don't think I seen a picture though.

No XU1 tanks had a flap or baffle to stop fuel going back up the filler neck under acceleration.

Good on you Dave for that,

I will keep looking for the info, and found this for $590:-

the other idea, would be to put the flap in the fuel neck, an easy mod.

maybe this is a start:-

p.s. will these metal tanks be any good for Ethanol Fuels etc, or should we find a Stainless steel one. hmm

I know manufacturers are to have the real price, and the second sellers do the discount prices.

Anyone know why the other supplier (BM ) is more expensive?

Thanks again

Gene, I could be wrong but I think you'll find the XU1 tank kits that Rares and PC sell are the same item.

The Aussie muscle car parts and Old Skool auto parts XU1 tanks appear to be the same however they are slightly different to Rares and PC's tanks.

Just had a look at B.M's website. The XU1 tank he sells appears to be the same painted tank that Rares and PC are selling.
