Hi all, well I have spent hours trying to find out how to wire up my converted Delco (Jeep) dissy for my 186, with no results : (

All its doing is replacing the original bosch dissy, so theres no fancy ignition units or anything. But all there is, is a plug box on the side with wires going in from the dissy, but no wires coming out. And even if there were wires coming out I wouldn't know where they go.

It may sound like a stupid question, but I have no idea were to wire it to, like with 12V power and earth, and tacho. I know how to fit the spark plugs and do the timing, but thats it.

I don't mind sounding like a dumb Cunning Stunt, we've all got to learn somewhere.

Is there like an easy to understand wiring diagram or something.

Cheers

So it's an intergrated coil onto the cap of the dizzy?

Where the wires plug into the cap, are there any spare terminals there next to that plug? 12v Tach GND?

Would hazard a guess and say Red = Ign Black = Gnd Yellow = Tach

But really should come with some instructions.

Or perhaps search for the manual online from the vehicle it came out of.

Thanks guys, there is a terminal next to those wires that plug in. One says "Batt" the other "Tach" but I don't know if it goes straight to the battery, and should it be earthed.

Batt= 12v switch IGN.

Tach= Tach

Its probably grounded through the body of the dizzy.

Thanks Brad, does that mean I wire it to the fuse box ignition or will there be an existing ignition wire, like the original one that came off the old dissy.

if your using the existing wiring and it still has the ballast resistor in circuit you will only have 7 volts you will need to bypass it at the IGN switch so as you have 12 volts

I assume you mean the actual ignition, so do I wire it into where the key goes into start the car? lol Ignition can mean more than the start key right.

I have an LC so its on the control panel next to the lights switch.... frOck Im cracking up.

Ah, Lc might be different due to dash ignition.

Yup LC will be on the dash,on my LJ I linked the yellow ballast bypass wire the ballast wire (sort of rubbery feeling wire),well it is on my car pretty sure yours will be the same,and don't cut the yellow off either just link it,from memory to get the IGN barrel out turn the switch to ACC put a small allen key in the hole and turn clock wise and pull it out....or is it backwards ??? try one if it wont come out try the other,before you put it all back together measure the voltage at the ign feed at the dizzy with the engine running should by battery voltage or close to it

No need to run a new wire, just drop the column to gain access to the ignition switch wiring. Strip some plastic covering off both the pink & yellow wires & solder them together. Don't cut any wires, just join them together. You will now have a full 12V supply to the new ignition coil.

Just trying to fire up the old girl for the first time with this delco dissy. And Im finding theres no spark at the plug.

I have tried to narrow down the problem, so I put a multimeter on the coil, (the little round metal part that pushes the spring which goes to the rotor and there is no voltage there with the ignition on. But there is 12Vs at the red and yellow wires that go to the coil. This is a brand new dissy, so I don't know. I have followed all your other instructions, so now Im scratching my head.

Cheers

i will hazard a guess,the 12v terminal goes to ign.sw.

red wire on dizzy to coil positive

yellow wire to coil neg

black wire to earth or grnd.

Big disclaimer...if it nukes...blame me  :)

keep your multimeter and other parts of your body away from the HT spring loaded thingy.

Hey cheers, but its all wired up correctly. But theres no spark.

So my question is, is there supposed to be 12Vs at the other side of the coil?
