Hey guys,

I've been thinking and thinking (which doesnt happen very often - let me tell you), and now i rekon that there has been a bit of model war happening. Not the LX vs UC type, no no... I'm talking the Sunbird vs Torana type.

There are no braking differences, only engine and transmission in most. And for what its worth, they end up being cheaper to buy and throw a 6 or V8 into...

Now my question to you is...

Should Sunbirds be given the GMH tick to be called torana's once the horrid 4cyl has been removed, and replaced with at least 6cyl's, or should they stay as Sunbirds.

I'm proud to say mine is a Sunbird, but in the engine bay, the plate says Torana.

Opinions please!!

Cheers
Keith

If its a 4 banger, its a Sunbudgie.

If its a 6 or 8, its a Torana.

Simple.

Hi Guys.

The early LX 1900, from release to Nov '76 weren't Sunbirds either.

LX Sunbirds also had better trim, better in fact than 6 cyl SLs. They tried to make the 4cyl Torana more appealing to buyers of Jap cars, that's why they were 1st with RTS, better trim, radio standard etc.

They didn't go very hard but they went around corners pretty good.

Yes, all this 'name calling", perhaps someone cares.......well it can have insurance implications.....depending on the company.........a sunbird with a 6cyl is a highly modified vehicle.
What would you call a torrie with a starfire transplant?

devils your not making sence!! If you dont care then what are you doing in here replying? I dont get it..

A sunbird is a model of Torana full stop, its still a torana and always will be no matter if it has a 4,6,8 or even a jet engine its still a torana..

If your looking to build a tuff torry a sunbird would be your best bet, Having a 4cyl means it hasnt been under any stress and you get better trim and many more fetures you wouldnt get with a SL.. I brought a LX sunbird sedan once as a donner car and it came with hatch console, tarten trim, overiders, aircon and heaps more..

What would you call a torrie with a starfire transplant?

A Joke!!

^^ A joke is true. Anyone would be crazy to put a starfire into any torana that had a 6...

Even CarDomain.com guys - they dont have a section for the Sunbird, so everyone who's on CarDomain has a Torana!

What was I doing? Trying to convey my feelings of the futility of this thread! again couldnt care less whether anybody called a sunbird with a 6 a torana or not....but if you want to discuss what it should be then:

Looking at my Sunbird owners manual, the word Torana is not mentioned once,in fact Sunbird is only written on the cover and inside page, same for the Torry manual!
Sunbird is not a model of Torana, some people may think so....but the manufacturer had the first and last say about that.
Holden and other manufacturers decided long ago, rather than just providing different options that the customer could order(ie a 4,6 or 8, cloth seats etc), that they would package them together in DIFFERENT models.....calling them such regardless of whether the body was identical. Just as silly as saying that all Premiers and Belmonts are Kingswoods........they are all Holdens. Perhaps you could have ordered a Kingswood with the stretch option, but they called that option the Brougham model..........goodness gracious......Ive wasted more brain cells on this thread again.......
