My car is nearly finished at the panel beaters.

My engine bay is all smoothed out and all the holes have been blocked. I am going for that smooth finish.

I am after ideas on where I can run my bonnet cable, wiper motor wiring and battery cable (battery in boot) without drilling any holes in the fire wall that are noticeable.

I was thinking of running the bonnet cable through guard if it reaches?

Also the wiring for head lights, any ideas on where I can pass the wiring through?

My motor is injected; I definitely need a large hole somewhere in the fire wall. I was thinking of drilling a hole directly behind the dizzy if possible. That way the hole will not be noticeable.

Any ideas or pictures would be great!

Easier to drill the hole behind the rocker cover (passenger side) as the heater, demister unit is there, plus you can get at it if dramas happen. I noticed you have cleaned the firewall, but for rego you will need a heater demister, and if using Vintage Air or similar, it will bolt into that position.

I mounted my bonnet release cable relase knob behind the front bumper bar. Drill a hole in the bonnent release support bracket that mounts to the lower radiator support.

To release but hand under the bumper & grab knob.

I used an aftermarket bonnet cable (lokar billet one) and hid it on the other side of the inner guard (the outside that is) and then ran it through the pillar and under the dash. I have most of the wiring hidden the same way. (the body loom..the engine loom I used a large grommet and ran it sort of below and over (towards the center of the car) from the booster)

Is your bonnet cable still in the same position under the dash Jeff?

Do you have a picture of your wiring loom ?

Thanks

That looks very neat.  Where did you drill the hole to feed the head light wiring and wiper motor wiring ?

If you look under the wiper motor area on the primer pic...above the red arrow and below the wiper motor...under the pinch join, there is a hole..the wiper motor wiring goes through a grommet there.   The headlamp wiring, along with horn, etc goes through the black convelute tubing on the outside of the inner guard shown above. I used all the high temp, OEM stuff too..not the cheap parts store stuff that seems to fall apart after a couple years.

Oh, and on the firewall..the 2 holes in the middle, are where the bulkhead AN fitting goes for the heater hoses. (everything is AN stuff) I fed them under the intake and it's a pretty straight shot to the firewall there. Plus they are basically hidden that way too. :)

If you put in a fresh hole right below the original one, just below the lip that is between the upper an lower firewall sections, this will put it pretty close to the chassis rail and you can run the harness and release cable under the lip, through the bracket area for the bumper, and through the hole in the radiator support and it will all reach.

The bonnet cable will reach and be the correct length still. If you put the headlight relay on the front of that radiator support in the right location all of the wiring harness will also reach, and if the headlight harness is put in its original location this should also plug back in.

As for the wiper motor, with some fiddleing, or maybe pull the pins form the connector shell first, you can put it through the hole that the choke cable normally goes through, and it will also reach in its standard form.

Good luck.

Thanks Mick, they are all great ideas. Just in regards to the wiper motor, i have no choke hole. All holes have been blocked.

The head light harness, where would you drill the hole to connect up to the actual head light?

Has anyone ever looked at mounting something like a starter solenoid to the underneath of the bonnet catch and doing away with the cable altogether?

And bonnet cable stuff..

If your battery goes flat, you won't be able to open the bonnet... ;)

Which won't matter if you have the battery in the boot

i had a boot lock solenoid on mine years ago.

found that the spring on the latch had to be made weaker and the bonnet had to be adjusted so it didnt pull down so tight.

the solenoid i had was not as strong as needed.

if you can find ultra strong solenoids it should be no issue at all.

if you have your battery under the bonnet. get some cable and run a positive and negative to a anderson plug hidden where you would like it.

that way you can always get to it to charge it.

i had multiple leads made up so i can connect my charger or jump start the car. etc.
