All radiators with the part number on stroud are 10 fin or 12 fin NOT 14.5 fin per inch  all made by natrad dandenong vic.

can you show me a CK or LJ xu1  with the p/n 2823866 and date code that matches the xu1 built date in the stroud thanks.

I'll repeat my question.

Are you saying that all 10 & 12 fpi (Torana) radiators were made by Natrad, Dandenong VIC???

If so, where were the 14.5 fpi XU1 radiators manufactured?

Just to clarify, I am talking early 1970's.

Cheers

Dave.

Ok saw about 50-100 XU1's today at Toranama and didn't find any shrouds with 2823866 on them.

I did manage to find 2 XU1's that were unrestored and they had shrouds that were blank and all had the matching date stamp in the top tank. There were a heap (70% ish) of XU1's with varying part numbers on the shroud that were not Torana. One had 2824058 which is a 2250 and 2850 eng heavy duty LJ radiator. There was probably around 10 restored XU1's with blank shrouds and stamped tanks.

Cheers.

Just to add, note the Oil cap and the placement of the sticker.....

Hi

I have to agree with crabba67 and macdou. Years ago when I was after an original radiator for mine, a few people said "you're wasting your time looking for a number on the fan guard - there isn't one".

Here's another pic of an original.

Cheers

I concede that the plain fan guard may be an XU1 only thing, however there should at least be a metal identification plate carrying the manufacture date code and production plant code affixed on or near the top tank on a factory original radiator.

National Radiators Ltd fitted identification on all radiators to assist with warranty claims.

Hi Dave

I have no idea how many Natrad factories there were in those days, but the thought occurred to me that if it eventuates that XU1 radiators were only made in one factory, there would be no need to identify which one. Below are examples of the alphanumeric date codes stamped from the inside out on the header tanks.

Cheers

Check out Torana Tough page 112. Interesting pics of under the bonnet of Barbara Dykes 1973 XU1. Pics taken in 1974.

Can see the raised number stamping in the fan guard in both pics.

Hi Anthony, Baz, ect,I'm "fairly" sure a friend used to have 1 on his xu1 as is in he was the 2nd owner from late 70's of a 8/72 brisbane built xu1, which I'm sure he was telling me the part number of years ago ! Any photos i might of had would be gone by now, i will try to contact him & ask the question. Could this be a different plant scenario ? Car was very very original & he knew the 1st owner. Skap obviously Anthony accidentally typed in "stroud" instead of shroud ! & i like a "stroud" is something thrown at tools that say "anyways" f@ck i hate that saying are these people 15 you ?????? Gary.

Anthony, I'm finding it hard to positively differentiate if there is or is not any numbers stamped into the fan guard. Zooming in on the pic doesn't help either.
