Have to reco the rear drums brakes on the LJ and am tossing around the idea of painting the drums cast iron grey instead of black.

I'm trying to visualize grey drums contrasting with the gloss black on the sprintmasters.

What do y'all reckon, matt black, gloss black or cast iron grey?

Sorry, gotta agree with Gene. Matt black for me.
But, hangon. If cast iron grey is like my manifold paint, which is close to a dark neutral colour, that'd be ok.

I was just thinking about this yesterday, mine were originally a dark grey similar to cast iron grey. They had a bit of surface rust so I gave a quick coat of black, but I'm thinking when I get up to it I'll go back to the dark grey.

Thanks for your thoughts guys. Think I will give the cast iron grey a go and see how it looks. If I don't like it I can always re-coat with matt black.

Well the rear brakes are in a million pieces now so the shoes and drums are off to be relined and skimmed tomorrow.  Wheel cylinders are original Holden items I had stainless sleeved many years ago so hopefully I only need to clean them up and fit new cups and dust boots.

Found the two springs at the top of the shoes on the right hand side are stretched but the ones on the left hand side are OK. Got me stumped why. Time to try and find some better springs me thinks so if anyone reads this and has a pair they are willing to part with please PM me.

Cheers

Dave.

Cheers Graham.

Five or so years ago I would have said Action Brakes at Hendra but they don't touch cars anymore. The main focus of their business always was heavy transport.

Getting them done by ABS (Auto Brake Service) at Geebung, I suspect they farm the drum machining and the shoe relining out so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Painted drums are gay.

Get your wire brush on your drill, buff the crap off them, and let them rust naturally.

What if I paint them a rusty colour R-O-B Dammit, would that still be gay?
