I have an LC GTR . Since obtaining a 2600S I would like to restore
it to original (Verdoro Green Metallic with Antique Gold Interior)
I am trying to confirm whether it should have Gold or Black
side stripes. I know I have asked this one before but there was some who
said only black was available and others who thought gold was available on
my colour of Verdoro Green . I am also wondering if perhaps the rally stripes
where Gold ?
HT Monaros in Verdoro Green allways had Persian Gold stripes
Could Dr Terry possibly clear this one up Plse ?

Rally Stripes could be gotten in a few shades depending upon car colour.
Whereabouts are you located Verdoro?

AFAIK all side stripes & bonnet/boot stripes were black on LC GTRs, but I'll do a bit of research.
As you probably know, certain paint colours in HT GTSs (Verdoro green being one) used Gold instead of Black, but I don't think this was the case for LC GTRs.
Dr Terry.

Your time and any info greatly appreciated .
I have heard people say they had seen my colour GTR with gold stripes but who
knows whether the factory put it there.
In response to Grant , I am in Canberra
Thanks

Only black stripes AFAIK and the B&W photos I have of a police LC GTR shows that although the car is a very dark colour, the side stripes are still black.

I'm pretty sure they were always black as per the pics I sent you..
I have only seen gold side stripes on a Monaco Maroon car (it may have been a special order or dealer feature). Even all other Monaco Maroon cars had black stripes.

It does seem like the majority of people think that they where all black
although I can't help wondering if special orders where available.
It will however be interesting to see what Dr Terry is able to find out.
(incidently no hurry as the body is still waiting restoration with the panel
beater)

I'm convinced , I looked at a GMH Colour listing and under stripes it says Persian Gold for GTS Monaro but only mentions Warrigal Black for the GTR.
I would therefore assume any that had Gold stripes must have been a special order or done by their owner.
I will hence go the safe bet and use black .
Thanks for the help

No where near ridgy didge...........
If you are going to "restore" a car, you could at least get the sizes right.
Couple of mobs here in Brissie will do accurate GTR stripes.
Will have to find some numbers.

be correct and I might be wrong but is that a ford gt style radio aerial ??
Also I now have pictures of two different unrestored cars (including that sent
to me by John ) that both show the Verdoro green with black stripes.
The way I see it I can just use black or I could go the gold and claim it was a special order.
I must admit I do like the idea of the gold on such a dark main colour but I
am not sure how it would effect the cars value.

That gold stripe is no way near what it should be and as most of you know I sell the stripes on ebay.
This is not a promo for me but simply to show you what the side stripe should look like at the point.
AND this is the car that the measurements and front TRACINGS were taken off.
It is an Acacia Ridge built car and still had the original stripes on it albeit in not good condition but usable for me.
I found this car for a friend and it had been sitting in a farm house for over 15 years which is fairly obvious.
I still maintain that no car is 100% original as there were mistakes made on the production line because the cars were assembled at a frantic pace. I have proof to back up that statement.
Saying all of that, there would be a standard for originality but there are certainly variants of that standard ie badges not quite in the right spot, parts not quite aligned when assembled, different trims thrown on etc. It did happen.
This car is a good example of that as it was suppose to have black trim but had Black seats and white door and white back side trims.
It is better to have them sprayed on but if originality is what you want then the shape above is very close. That is not the correct size as it has been resized for image posting.
I am currently working on a "masking" vinyl product for those who want to spray them on. This vinyl can be peeled off after spraying leaving the painted on stripe.
The first 60cm is the crucial part to get right.
Hope this helps, regards ................. Barry

some early LC GTRs did have the split in the front of the stripe.
At the time it was probably easier and quicker to apply.
Some early promo pics apparently show this too.
David,
Buy a set of Barry's stripes and put some gold ones on the car.
Then you can say "I've got the real ones" should you ever sell it.....

Interesting to note the fit of the bonnet at the hinge end. Looks just like every other Torana including mine. Just no real way to make adjustments.
