Got mine from pirtek or bolt joint...not a necessity but they do neaten things up.Might only need 1 if going to put thermofan on later.
Clueless with threads so took out sender & showed them.
Soak with WD40 then wrap ring spanner over it...closed end only.If doesn't budge soak it more try again next day.
Make sure fit headers back on & dodge up some pipes 'cos will melt stuff or send ya deaf

taking off to show/try treads, cheers gtr
hmm, knew sound was going to be ..funny
didn't consider the heat! thanks for heads up
am using thermo, already have mounted.. so..?? will eventualy be using one of the plastic trees later i gather you are saying.
that said, i hear so many stories of overheating problems..
that i wonder why we use a seemingly highly restrictive thermostat and not running fan full time.
answer might indicate WHY i am not left in charge of designing cars hahaha

I'd use one of these to swtch fans on/off bolt it into manifold or radiator have all wiring neat & tidy...add overide switch in dash if fussy.
Engine pipes are a must if using factory cast headers, will run better...just dodge some up out of scrap or old 6cyl exhaust to get it running, longer the better.
First get bare basics done...fire that sucker up then fix/tune stuff as needed

firstly, andrew.
"Hopefully there is another large vacuum fitting under the front of the carb too, where the purple arrow is pointing? You can connect this to the charcoal canister."
nope :(
has large one on rear, going to pcv as best i gather
going by your "hopefully"... that could make things tad more difficult
last pic shows the "to dizzy" you mentioned i gather
__________
$19 inc postage.. would of been better, gtr
fooking love the simplicity though, as long as can get one that fits thread
_________
am planning on extractors.. but won't have money for them anytime soon..
am saving for the dreaded cost of full lx rubber kit.
may just scrap something together as you point out
__________
got the (in picture) left hand side plastic tree off
turns out it wasn't "bubbly" weld around it, but 20yr old ?? liquid teflon/locktite
cant get the larger one on right off, don't have a spanner big enough. 35mm?? or something
am leaving to soak and try with the multigrips

so, i knew the oil on dip looked like this
not bad for a car sitting unused for 10-20 years i thought
as "seemingly" good as that looked i was secretly dreading having a look inside the rockers
..as had researched vids on taking apart 253's... and theirs looked like this
and hence this
thick sludge and blocked drains everywhere!
...but i took mine off anyways just now,
and looks like this
can only hazard a guess is a good thing and very fortunate

A9X had them temp switches in radiator...so neat.
VPW were cheaper but shop around...for now just use normal on/off switch, spend coin on necessities.
The crud on threads can be teflon tape or stag paste used for welsh plugs

Check out this ugly accelerator cable setup & bracket.
It will work ok to get it running..hope pic not big.

not sure what's bigger, the pic or the manifold;)
my cable has to come from behind though. (unless i work out how to disassemble and reverse mechanism.. which ain't bloody likely)

Have look at end of accelerator cable...the ball it clips onto bolts into one of the holes of throttle shaft.
Lowest hole = cable from front(as per pic)
Highest slot = cable from rear

Vac tubes from metering block to advance unit on dizzy as already stated, same with heater lines.
PCV should for all intents and porpoises come from the big take off at base of carb. via a tube to PCV valve to one end of a rocker cover
in which the PCV valve plugs into , there needs to be the other rocker cover with another hole that another tube that leads up to air cleaner.
The air filter "can" usually had a fitting that was fitted inside the "can" that had a nipple to the outside world that a tube was connected
to from the rocker cover WITHOUT the PCV valve. That set up defines Positive Crankcase Ventilation ?
As said , the holley will probably be the problem because it has no vented bowl port or a purge port that lead to canister , block off
all the crap not needed , not sure , but you might be able to get brass bungs from the plumbing section in a hardware store ?
and i have a proper egr blanking plate if needed , frok all that pollution crap off bar the needed stuff for rego. because all it caused was pollution?
another edit , according to vic roads 22 ADR 27a was an addition to ADR 27 that defined CO emissions ,but 27a was a control of NOS emissions
along with the 27a , nothing wrong with a sweet smelling pipe , sure beats the the hell out of dioxins from an engine that was equipped with pollution stuff ?

info much appreciated eunuch
" there needs to be the other rocker cover with another hole that another tube that leads up to air cleaner."
damn. thought was saving money and just needing hose to connect from existing pcv/cover to base of carb.
as will be using (non factory setup) a washable 9inch x3in air cleaner, imagine have to drill hole in base and mount there.
but, so... no pcv valve on second hose running to cleaner?
and i will try plumbing as have one local, cheers!
thanks for offer of blocking plate, but car came with one.. and bloke i bought car off 2 years ago said.. get hands on egr, so did.
as seemingly going to go the easiest of setups and test the waters when time for rwc/rego... may just block off indeed

That wiil work with that bracket in pic.Got ATF oil in eyes so I'm squinting.
Getting there just add 'return spring' & connect accelerator cable...try what you have, might be right length.
A9X had them in radiator most 'aftermarket' go into manifold as hole already there...no biggie tbh.
9x3 things are not the best, use it if you got it...bigger generally better..most aircleaner bases have the hole.

not good or fun about the eyes!
trying to look at 350 holley cable brackets/setups is ..difficult.
no one has quite same bracket as mine.
car doesn't have cable so will have to get new one, and just see how they attach to a car and go from there

done well mate. stick with it, no need too pay people to do these easy jobs..
if there is a bunnings or supercheap store close, buy a spanner the right size it will be much easier.
also i think your water pump is missing its top left bolt???

both off now!.
takes same bung size, so i know i can get that tomorrow
and just looking at my pic i think are right about bolt. will look to see if have spare in bits drawer

While you're in there, buy some "Thread Tape" aka Teflon tape to seal the threads, much less messy than liquid sealant and cheap as.
Apply it in the opposite direction to the thread and it won't peel off as you screw the bung in.
Also these fittings don't need to be all that tight, just because they have a huge nut doesn't mean you have to swing off them, they are probably a tapered thread too so you can crack the alloy manifold if you over-tighten them.
With regard to the accelerator cable, I know Commodore cables run around and come in from the front but don't Torana cables normally come in from the rear (ie. Torana cables are shorter)?

No Andrew. LH and LX definitely had cable come around right side of motor, then cable tie to top radiator hose and on to cable bracket.
