Hey,
Whilst stripping my car i removed the crome strips that run along the top of the door frames (the ones on the body not the doors).
I was planning on leaving these off after the paint is complete (not to mention i wrecked them taking them off and they have been thrown out).
What i wanted to know is do the crome strips actually prevent water from entering the door seal area, or is the that the job of the thing that the crome is mounted on?

here is a pic to show which i am talking about.

They are stainless steel (The chrome gutter mouldings). The bit underneath is what keeps the water off the doors...

If you don't want the chrome. That screw-on part also comes in a painted version (On SL & Sunbird Models AFAIK; all the models that do not have the chrome trim standard obviously.)

I love that chrome trim, I've gotta find one for my car and patiently remove it to keep it in tact.

For those with a factory workshop manual they usually give some dimensions for the proper tool to remove these trims. I made a quick dodgey one when I took mine off, it left slight creases though. I was able to rub most of them out with a piece of wood before re-fitting them.

I did have some painted ones from first time round somewhere but they seem to have been misplaced!

Cohen, will swap painted items for your chrome trims. :spoton:

...but they will need to be painted to match the car... currently red.
