I had an oil leak but couldn't narrow it down from either the sump or the harmonic bal seal. I replaced the seal and while watching to see whats going on I noticed it had a slight weep at the back of the harmonic bal ( witch i'm not overly concerned as its a new seal and may be just bedding in). But after stopping the motor 5mins later a weep of oil made its way from the front between the pulley and the crank.
Do you have to apply any sealant to the crank surface prior to fitting the pulley, i thought it was just a interferance fit.
I pressed the pulley all the way on.
What's going on?

seal fit to the cover should be sealed with the brown grade 3 sealent and the crank surface should be pre lubed with vasoline to aid bed in.
i have also heard reccomendations that if there is a bolt in the end that this should also be sealed.

did you check balancer surface where seal runs for grooves or wear?
can be uneven surface and not seal properly if done lots of Ks

Apply sealant to balancer when fitting. Oil can leak between balancer and crankshaft.
