OK Andrew, definitely a HQ and my guess is that it would have been a 4.2 with a 3 on the tree. Probably in a shade of brown knowing Ted.

hmm..I've never seen a LHD to know.
Thought it strange though that they would put old wheels on LJs, maybe the shaft/ spline thing explains it?

The Philippines and Korean LHD LJ's used LC steering columns, LC steering wheels and LC ignition switches in the lower instrument panel.

Without looking it up I'd guess the newer parts were to comply with ADR changes, which obviously don't apply to exports.

 

Remember that Holden hated to waste anything... got some old parts stock, let's throw it in the exports to get rid of it!

I've been watching as many episodes of "Kingswood Country" as I can find online gathering clues as to the exact model of the infamous Kingswood, but there's not as many as I thought I remembered.
 
Of the six seasons of KC, the Kingswood was only around for the first two (26 episodes) although apparently it made a comeback for the spinoff series "Bullpitt!" but I haven't had time to watch that yet.
 
Ted bought the "Commodore 4" in S03E01 entitled "Sale Of The Century" and from memory there was a heap of references to the Kingswood in that episode (I believe it was mentioned here that it's lucky the Kingswood was a V8 to haul around all the accessories), unfortunately that's one episode that I can't find online (there are a heap of mislabeled episodes on YT).
 
Another episode I can't find and need to watch is S04E21 "A Spelling Lesson", again going by memory, I think that's the one where Ted says he bought the Kingswood in 1971, making it either a HG or a HQ (HQ released 15th July 1971). Further to that, in S01E09 we see Ted holding a hubcap off the Kingswood and it looks to me like a HQ hubcap...

I've watched most of season 3, except three episodes I can't find, but there's a lot more missing from the final three seasons so not sure if it's worth continuing, as much as I like Old Grumble Bum, I kinda need to watch something else for a while!

There was an episode where Ted won a trivia night as he knew the engine number from the first Kingswood as he owned it. Which means he owned a HK Kingswood sedan, and it will be a September 1967 pilot, specifically the Woodville body tooling tryout car whose body ID plate details appear in the HK sheet metal shop manual, from memory it is body 80369 1-A. Engine number will have probably been one of the following:
161L1001
161H1001
186P1001
186S1001

ASSUMING it was the first HK assembled, which is often not the case. Often another body like 80369 2-A or 80169 1-A or 80569 1-A would actually get assembled first and get the first HK engine. We also don’t know for certain that the first one was a 6cyl, it may have been a 283 (307 wouldn’t have had time to get here yet), but very slim chance of it being a V8.
