I wonder what the thinking or maths is/was for the stock 1 5/8in tail pipes after the stock 2in system?
As exhaust cools it shrinks, slowing down, reducing the diameter past the mufflers may help keep air speed in the tail pipe up?

From what I gather yeah, that.
As it goes through the muffler it cools rapidly. Could be wrong.
