Wrong shape for ash tray. More like radio blank plate but wrong shape as well I think.

I was moreso thinking box torana, could have been a pre production type thing when they were planning on callign the LH the XU-2??

Looks like an LH/LX Torana ash tray face plate to me. I can only think it is a production prototype that escaped before they pulled the pin and name changed to the SL/R 5000.

I think it's too long for an ash tray fascia

Yeah I know a couple of guys have said it looks too big but it certainly looks like that and with the coolness of the XU2 all your mates would want to be in the car all the time so a bigger ash tray would have been required.

I,ve seen this before too at some stage. Long time ago, but I was told it was a pre production ashtray for LH SL/R.
Although it is a bit squashed up to fit it on the front guard, if you look at the number two they are both the same font.

The XU2 Ashtray is in Norm's Torana Tough Book, there are Pics of it in the Book.

So the dash was matt rather than grain pattern?

There are two in the Torana Tough Book, Page 202
One the same as the one Posted that is the Styling Purposed version and a Black Grain type one done by a Vendor for the Pilot material.
