GTR = Grand Touring Rally (I think, or maybe race.. who cares)

I've heard the same about SL/R  Sports Luxury/Rally but others here say Racing. Yep who cares they were used in both rally and racing.

Hi

I would have thought if any of these designations meant anything definite, GMH would have used them in their million dollar advertising campaigns    -   somewhere  -  at least once.

Pre world war 2, SS was the name of a British car manufacturer who built sports sedans, and some very sexy ones at that however when the Nazis used SS it had all the wrong connotations, so they changed their name to Jaguar

SS was an intentional misrepresentation of the many $$  they knew it would take to buy and restore one in the future!!

Didn't SL/E stand for Sex Luxury Express??

Is this genuine memorabilia? The shirt is genuine but what about the tie? Found it in an OP shop $1. Made by Rodney Mark.

 what about the tie?

Edit; I think it's not quite; the tie looks like mirrored '2's or upside down '5's, the Stanzas have a proper S shape.

GM "performance" product option "super sport" first assigned to the full size impala 1961.   In response to fords GT and Mopars R/T.  it spread through the GM range to Chevelle, Nova, Camero, El Camino, Monte Carlo

GT was Ferrari's "Grand Turismo"  and once stolen was labelled as "Grand touring" and as usual inappropriately applied to cars that were nowhere in the class of the Ferrari.  e.g. Hillman Hunter GT.

GHIA was an Italian automotive styling house, like Pininfarina  and came to symbolise luxury and style. (Karman Ghia)

Brougham was recycled from Cadillac.

Monte Carlo, Biarritz came from Stutz.

the auto industry marketing likes to leverage any previous history that is positive, theirs or anyone elses.

GT is Gran Turismo, an Italian term that translates to grand or great tourer. The term was used by Italian manufacturers since the 1920s to describe a luxury vehicle able to travel long distances at high speeds. It was never a term owned by Ferrari.

Which makes names like Monaro and Torana pretty unique as they are Australian names. Even Kingswood was a US name re-used here.
