Hi all, I have been around forever but haven't posted in a while. It looks like I have a new lx ss coupe which is exciting. Since I had my last one in 2001 and sadly sold it from $8500 a lot has changed.

Has anyone here with a torana worth around 60to 70k had insurance with any company and had a claim with no issues? I have never had a claim in my life and know all insurance companies well but I am a bit out of touch. Shannons seem great till you make a claim. I used to work with Vigil insurance who are now lsv insurance I see.

I want to be able to choose my own repairer and agreed value. After reading Shannons reviews for the last 30 minutes I don't think I want to go there.

Any advice would be appreciated as I am buying it this week. Thanks in advance! :)

I don't think Shannon's are all that bad from what I have read.

Just ensure you actually read your PDS.. Seems a lot of people don't then whine about conditions.... To which they actually agreed ?

Enough about insurance, where are some pics of the new hatch ? :)

I'm interested in hearing about these reviews

I've never had a problem with them... though never made a claim on car

Did make a house and contents claim this year and found them excellent.. .above and beyond what I expected

Shannons give you choice of repairer... inc yourself

Agreed value (though I have heard of some people having trouble agreeing with them)

Fast claim settle

Whats the review bad points ?

Had my mildly modded ss ute with Shannons...twice it got tapped once sideswiped other time rear tapped.

Both times not at fault BUT both times other drivers refused to pay & refused fault..Shannons still said go ahead get ute fixed nothing to pay they'll chase other party.

QTCC had David Snape a consultant from NRMA's Veteran, Vintage, Classic Vehicle insurance give a talk at our monthly meeting and many were impressed with his knowledge and experience especially in the modified car scene.

They do agreed value, wreck retention, laid up cover, under 25yr olds etc your choice of repairer or they can suggest one.

He did say don't call the 1800 number as you'll get a numby who doesn't have a clue, call him direct on 0411 011 205

The premiums seem to be competitive too

Check out Lumley's (LSV) and Ryno. They seem to be the two other popular choices and I have one car with each. I've yet to make a claim but they had better rates than Shannon's. My friend has his Ferrari with Ryno so they do insure high value sports cars.

The only issue I found with the likes of LSV etc is they wont insure our daily drives. Id rather have everything with one mob, one bill.

I'd rather have everything with one mob, one bill.

I don't see the need to pay extra for that privilege. I shopped around for the best deal, I went to the big three; Ryno, Shannon's & LSV; and asked to quote each car separately and to bundle quote both.  The cheapest option for me was to have one car with LSV and the other with Ryno.

The final rate of course depends on where you live, the car(s), insured value, etc. so your rates may vary but it helps to shop around if you want the best deal.

Shannons offer multi policy discount. So by having 4 cars, house and contents we obtain a discount.

This means they have the same backing when it comes to claims? They probably still run as different companies and offer different rates.

Goodaye all

Robert Shannon wrote my first policy and now l have 6 cars and the house with them.

Have had a couple of claims that were not my fualt, one write off paid out in 3 days, another they paid me for repairs, the last 9 weeks to approve repairs, wasn't happy about that but l selected a repairer who did a outstanding job.

Also l have known of a few members who got a great price to change from Shannons but didnt get there renewals the following year, obviosly with the cheap price they couldent afford stamps.

regards Bruce

As above, made claims never had a problem with Shannon's.

I made a claim once a while back and they were fantastic. I couldn't get to the assessment center so they sent one to me personally. Gave me choice of repairer and supported me the whole way. In no way made it difficult.

The only negative was my initial experience with the assessment agency was that they were quite pushy (they were trying to hurry me up to bring the car to be assessed). But when I contacted Shannons head office they straightened them out.

I moved my house insurance to Shannons as this claim was by far the easiest I had made.

Occasionally I have had a poor experience on the phone but its rare. Generally i just hang up and call back and once i get someone else, its all good again. I have had just a couple of people on the phone who wouldn't know a torana from a gogomobile, but they seem to know their fully sik turbos if you know what I mean.

That's a hard one, as they have a wide range of cars being Insured through them they would need people specializing in certain areas to cover every base.

Someone with a r34 with 100k worth of mods would probably get annoyed talking to someone who doesn't know cars were made after 1976 just as you got a bit annoyed with the other type, usually I you ask them to transfer your call to someone who knows more about the topic there pretty cool.

Spot on, when I can tell that the person on the phone may not be that knowledgeable about our cars, I just ring at a different time and work from there. In saying that, this has only happened a few times.
