Hi all,
was working on the nose cone of the LX,
and damaged the radiator core,
knocked it with the bonnet catch support,
and one of the cores opened up like it was made of tissue paper,
green coolant every where, ran my finger over the fins,
they just fell apart, the core is stuffed.

So my question what is a resonable price for a new 3 row V8 radiator core,
is in a LX runnning a 253, and auto.
Anyone had one fitted recenlty?
as I have no idea what it costs.

Cheers
Chris

I just bought a brand new HQ radiator 3 core to go into a Torana (just needs minor trimming)
Cost customer $380

While I was at it I enquired about a recore for mine to suit Chev
Was more money but that was a better rad
With the prices of copper at the moment a PWR alloy one is looking more promising for mine.

tubes can easily be repaired if you need the cheeper option. contact your local rad exp.
should be looking the $100 - $150 depending on how bad yours is.

Jeeez prices have jumped.... :S I paid $260 for the V8 Rad for the UC when I built it, and that was brand new, not a recore or 2nd hand unit.

^ yeah i know but i called about 20 radiator joints and that was the average, so im going to continue topping my radiator up each week till the price of copper comes down......lucky its a very gradual leak.....

Hi all,
finally had time this morning to get the old yellow pages and make some calls,
(been looking for a house to rent for the last 3 weeks)
Mobile Radiator Services was the best quote,
$299 inc gst for a NEW radiator,
$355 to recore the old one, so guess what the old one is headed for the bin,
that price is for an auto gearbox and includes delivery to my front door,
sweet as,
thanks for all you input,
Cheers
Chris.

I got mine recored last week, the first place a rang was Natrad and they quoted me $340+GST so then I rang place that charged me $200 so it pays to shop around.

Not sure the price of copper can explain the differences. Its now ~$12 per kilo and was about ~$3 per kilo 2 years ago. A radiator weighs about 7-8kg total for a 6cyl, what is acutally replaced in a recore?, just the fins between the cores, not the actual tubes or top tanks themselves which are a copper/bronze alloy(brass) anyway? How much do the fins weigh in total? Would estimate that the fins between the tubes wouldnt add up to more than a couple of kgs of copper at the most?

A recore actually usually involves removing the top and bottom tanks of your original radiator and replaceing everything in between.

I dont know how the would go about only replacing the fins only and not the tubes as it would take days and most of the time people get a recore is because they have holed their radiator anyway or its just plain old and worn out. In which case the tubes are bolcked and tin in the walls and wouldnt be suitable for reuse anyway.
