Has anyone ever put flares on their car and then regretted it? I would like to fit flares on mine but not sure!!

had flares on my slr... afraid i will regret putting them on the LH! once you cut the back arches, you're stuck with the flares! at least the front quarter panels are interchangeable if you ever wanted to go back to stock wheel arches again...

cheers.

If you do fit flares (assuming you cut the rear guards etc, (no real point in fitting them otherwise) and you want to revert back to unflared then you can expect to pay a panel shop or mate some serious bucks to cut and weld new guard sections in not to mention paint.

I like the look of flares but be advised, they collect gravel rash, crack in time and then a bit costly to replace esp if you have some fancy new fangled paint on your car which you cannot possibly match yourself.

Food for thought but the look IMHO is worth it all.

Cheers

Make sure you have the wheels to fill them, else they look horrible.
Herne's car shows perfect example of how to have flares.

Hi Pallbag, The rims as you can see are genuine Indy Racers. The rear rims are cast with US Indy Racer on the inside of the rim. And the fronts are cast with Shelby 500 on them. Currently for sale at 4k the lot but not advertised. Huge negative? (I think offset)

The rear are 15 x 10 (A9X flares) currently running Yokohama 265/50/15

The fronts are 15 x 8.5 currently running Goodyear Eagle 225/50/15 due to the offset I cannot possibly run larger front tyres, as it is these just touch the upper flare when on full lock.

If I got new rims I would want the large negative offset and also increase the positive offset. Then I could run some really huge tyres ;)

Cheers

I have put them on before, I just have 2 unflared cars that really really need the flares fitted, just don't know if I should. I already have wheels for both cars and have almost everything to complete the cars except for the body kits. I also need to start working on them as well, but they are appreciating in value just sitting there and I am always busy. I will get around to it.
I am just wondering peoples thoughts...

I think flares look great, but would struggle cutting up a collectable car to put them on. I think if i had an original SS 5000 that had survived 30 years and i cut it up i would end up regretting it. In fact it would probably haunt me for the rest of my life  But then i am obssed about Toranas. PS especially Aquarius.

I here you loud and clear Toranavista. I wish that car already had flares before I bought it, then I wouldn't have a problem.

I am with both of you, if fortunate to have found un un-molested one it would be a great find. I am very proud to have a 5000 with flares, reckon it is how they look best and would have it no other way!!
But, hopefully one day I will get the same or a hatch without the mechano set on it aswell if funds permit.

the other thing that makes me hesitate about cutting my wheel arches out is in nsw, you're only allowed 25mm wider than stock tyres.. so yeah, 265's instead of stock 175's must be defect material yeah?

if anyone in nsw knows how to get around rego and getting defected for wide tyres can you let me know?

cheers.

Anyone ever thought about what painted-on flares would look like? ie black bolts and black piping. Could have the look of flares without cutting her up! A job for someone in photoshop I think :)

The whole idea of fitting flares is to put wide tyres on. You cant do that without actual flares.

I realise that, some people might just be after the flared look without the wider wheels, it was just a thought for a photoshop pic really. Somewhat like the Gpak wheel arch blackouts, however just the outline of a flare rather than a solid black stripe
