That's probably why GMH will still be here. To engineer those cars into our cars. I believe GMH engineered the 2 door Viva into a 4 door Torana.

They don't look too bad but they're not really a Commodore or have a look that's worthy of Bathurst, it's just a decent looking sedate family car, then again Commodore haven't looked ballsy for some time in my opinion.

The US car companies are giving their sports flagship models a retro look based on their 70's models, of course with Holden not producing in Aus. that's unlikely to happen so they should just retire the Commo name.

I'm not sure what is so sacred about the Commodore name? The early cars were always looked down upon by Holden purists, GMH separated the Calais from the Commodore name by VK and other than the Group A's that had to be seen as Commodores in order to be eligible for Group A any of the hot shot performance stuff post HDT was pushed off into a separate HSV marque and totally distanced from the Commodore name. Sure there is no V8 but to be fair an awful lot of the VE/VF' platform sold aren't Commodores anyway, like Utes, Calais and the LWB derivatives. While I don't like the idea of the car I think Commodore is the right name for it, the original VB Commodore was essentially an Opel so why not this one be a Commodore too?

It's growing on me.

I'm seeing some Lamborghini Diablo in the styling (or it could be scotch colored glasses).

Can i have my burger with a Supercharged 6ltr/8spd sequential shift manual with a serve of 4WD/4WS on the side plz? :)

The VB was based on the Opel Rekord. Opel didn't stick with that name for the Insignia so why should Holden?  Now that Holden isn't manufacturing they should just leave them as Insignias, saving money redesigning the grille, etc.

^ From VN onward was pretty much the era I lost interest in Holden.

When I visited Croatia around 2000 I saw quite a few Geminis with Opel badges, they also had the VB Commo version too.

For me it was the end of VK when V8 ended and the VL became this awful Jap engined, cat eye looking piece of junk and when the V8 was later re-introduced it lost all performance and was Trimatic only. About the only interesting stuff for me post VK are Group A's, V2-VZ CV8 and SS Utes. Nothing much else is very inspiring unless you take a walk over to HSV product although these new LS3 engined VFII's are cool.

I wasn't a fan of the VL's either when they were released. But they grew on me. Particularly the Calais.

I didn't miss the V8. The E.T6 done a good job (especially with a little more boost) but the novelty wore off & i went searching for another V8.

Didn't like the RB30? Some do, some don't but you can't deny they are a good engine. No comparison between the black 202 & the RB30.

Kind of ironic that i'm currently converting a VL6 to 304. lol

I'm with Bomber a bit on this one. Whilst the Nissan engine may have been technologically advanced it or its gearbox wasn't reliability wise, although my dad still has a Skyline he bought new with unopened engine at over 350,000kM. I'd never have a 6cyl VK or VL though when there is a 5.0L V8 available especially V5H VK. I still find VL's ugly though, they are the UC of Commodores to me.

Yeah pretty much what I meant. The VL kind of grew on me as I quite liked the Walkinshaw and Brock Director that never eventuated. The VN did absolutely nothing for me, it looked like a Commodore wearing a nappy.

I'm basically the same with both VL GroupA and some of the HDT stuff but the basic Holden VL, yuk. VN GroupA is a good thing, and I don't mind VN SS (but don't tell Skap)!

By far the ugliest late model Holden shitbox are the VE Maloo ute things. frOck they are disgusting from almost every angle but especially from behind. The Commodore SS Utes look better than maloo.

^^With you all the way on that one. V2 was the same, the HSV Coupes were not pretty at all, nor were the Y series Clubsport and GTS. It was like add stuff for the sake of it.

yeah,  its a shame, I wanted that engine.....but couldnt cop the star wars body kit.

Even pondered asking them to deliver it without all the crap screwed on...but hey, at nearly double the price of a SS ute...it was gunna be an expensive box of plastic!.

To those who like the styling....no probs, each  to their own.

Correct me if I'm wrong Gene. Hilux V6 uses sooo much fuel you wouldn't touch one. Yet you pay $X,000 more for the far nicer and more powerful V8 Holden ute over the SV6.....
