I'm thinking of placing YT bolt on 1.5 roller rockers to my Torana and was just wondering would I expect to feel an improvement in performance or will it just be a reliability improvement as I have snapped a few std rockers.

You def wont snap any, well depends what rpm your always driving at!

Better valve response, i beleive therefore a cleaner, crisper sounding head. If theres no hp gain from that ill eat my hat!

Also the ability to rev the engine higher and harder, with more reliability.
Def worth getting!

yeah i would say they do seem to make it run better, AND if you have a solid cam its a needed part having roller rockers....

too say they dont break um well they do, ive never broken one but people do

i was at a dyno on the w/end and he broke 2 and 4 the other day so yeah, by the way it was a 1300hp machine, he was up to 850hp at the wheels then bam it broke

fyi if your rocker ratio is around 1.6 atm then going to 1.5 you may seea decrease in performance.
rocker ratio should be an important conciteration when upgrading.

I have the std rockers at the moment, not sure what ratio they are but I gather they would be 1.5. They are the adjustable ones to suit 186. Can anyone confirm the std ratio?

Std rocker ratio for a Holden 6 is 1.5:1.

Thanks for that. So if thats the case, the ratio will be the same for the rollers to the original rockers.

Are you running a big cam? Have you tried to work out why you currently break the standard rockers? Is the valve train geometry correct?

I went through this same exercise in 1975, kept on breaking standard rockers, so I put on a set on Crane rollers. Then I started breaking studs.... If the head has been machined/surfaced or you are running a big cam with standard springs then you may be getting geometry issues or coil bind.

I am running a big cam, I have a YT head and have checked for spring bind and found nothing. Motor revs to 6700rpm so I think that may be an area that roller rockers would help in.

have you checked for retainer to valve guide clearenceat full lift.
a rough guide is a paper clip thickness.
