my horn ring is broken, what is the difference between my one marked 16.7 : 1 ratio....and a hq one, lx one, or on not marked 16.7:1?
ie I need to replace, do i need to find an exact LJ one with 16.7 : 1 ?
thanks

There are several different versions of the HQ/LJ horn contact.
These things were used by GM-H for all Holdens & Toranas from HQ to VL Commodore & they differ in the spacing of the blinker cancelling 'ridges' because of the different steering ratios involved.
I found this when I did a power steering conversion for a guy on an HX GTS. Everything on the conversion went well & we cleaned it up & gave it back to the customer. He was initially very happy, but came back in several times over the following weeks due to his blinkers not cancelling 'properly'.
Every time I drove it, the blinkers seemed OK, but he then demonstrated it on a few corners nearby. Sure enough it turned out unless the wheel was turned more than a quarter of a turn they wouldn't cancel. I then then fitted the correct horn ring for a power steer car & it was perfect.
I haven't been thru all of the parts catalogues to check how many there are, but given the number of different steering set-ups used in Holdens over those models (std & p/st, slow & fast ratio, rack or box etc.) there are probably quite a few.

cheers gene. its stamped on the cream nylon bit, just says 16.7:1 in small writing. i dropped my zinc stuff off to aeroplate the other week, cheers for that
cheers 76lx, trouble is im mostly having to search online for them so measuring is hard, hopefully one pops up tho
ok thanks dr terry, my canceling hasnt worked in years, guessing its because this plastic part was broken, alll the pieces fell out when removed the wheel. ill search for a 16.7:1 horn ring then. Annoying its not just generic
