Hi All,

I've seen some old posts on roof & gutter prep but need to be sure.

I'm in the process of striping the roof back to bare metal and have scraped out all

the old white seam sealer and sanded out all the surface rust.

will be giving it a KBS rust blast but its the order of the next steps I need verified.

1- KBS rust blast,

2- 2k Epoxy primer surfacer.

3 - Seam seal gutter (sikaflex or something else),

4 - Primer ???

5 - Paint

Your thoughts on order, omissions or additions?

Thanks.

Depends how keen you are but I assume its just a bit of light rust inside the gutter, I'd use a small handheld sandblaster and blast the rust off rather than treating it. I'm not a great believer in treating rust, only 100% solution is removal. I've used the handheld ones on heaps of stuff, it's bloody messy but if its just light surface rust it will clean it right up then continue with steps 2 to 5

Yep you can sand blast it, with a glass or garnet type media, wax & grease, epoxy, do any repairs, hi build, seam seal, colour, in that order. Use good quality products obviously. & wait about 3 weeks between epoxy & hi build, then another 4 weeks after the hi build, before top coat, Gary.

Thanks,  Question on time periods,  do i apply  seam sealer  4 weeks later? do I let it dry or basically spray over top while still wet?

Yeah mate, let the hi build dry, shrink ect. You can mask of for the seam sealer & use soapy water for the final smoothening like you would with normal sealants, sikaflex is good, probably leave it 2 days before painting over. Does that help ?
