I know you have to run oil with zinc in it for the flat tappet cam engines but what oils are people running in their roller engines?
I’m only 40klm’s into my run in and will drop the oil around 350k’s and put in something nicer

Yeah...thr morr you read, the more Qs you have.
Meanwhile, back in the day, the farmer with the overloaded ute with 300000miles on it used to just put a glass bottle of "oil at the setvo" in it, and chug off again.

I use Nulon 10W-40 synthetic in all my modern engines. Locally made and I buy them 4-5 at a time when Supercheap or Repco have 20% off. Comes in 6L containers too which is good as Hilux uses about 5 and a bit litres and Lexus uses 6.2L. I used this in the V2 CV8 and VZ Cross8 too. I use 10W-40 rather than the recommended 10W-30 due to the summer temps exceeding 34deg and towing as recommended by owners manuals.
Not sure if this sort of oil is the go for a roller cam SBC or Holden V8, will find out soon as the HK’s 377 will be a hydraulic roller.

Never heard of Driven Oils. Obviously they don't let me out enough.

https://www.drivenra...ntional-15w-50/

yeah, that stuff was quite specifically called up by the engine builder of the twin turbo LS2 my son has.

He issues it to you when you pick up the engine so he is pretty sure you'll actually use it.

1000km? later, it is to be dumped and then use Penrite or whatever.

Molybdenum mate, not zinc ! Check out the liquimoly oil guide.

Agreed, for a cheaper oil, the nulon 10/40 full flow full synthetic oil is my choice & i would definitely run similar in a retro fit roller, with tight tolerance, molybdenum is the oil to suit a roller cam, not zinc & even old Johno has stated this. I run the liquimoly still in the ss, it is dearer, but IMHO it would definitely be the oil to run, in a good engine.

I've been told to use either Penrite HPR30 or ULX 110 for high zinc oil

They do a 10W-60 and a 15W-50 as well, either of those might be good for the 377 too. Being a 4” bore and 3.75” stroke it won’t be a big revving engine but will want decent lubrication.
