Notification that an L34 Nationals is being planned for early 2021.

Location will be Phillip Island.

PM me for details if you are an L34 owner and do not know about it. Over 50 owners currently know about it.

I will send you details of what it is about so you can decide if you want to be involved.

I know that it is over 18 months away, but if you are interstate it could take that time to work on a budget to get there.

Cheers,

Anyone know why the pretend PhaseIV and the L34 are together on the one page? Strange, they would never have raced against each other.

It was not a racing comparison. It's just 2 cars lined up and compared by the owners who had them at the time. The Phase IV is genuine I believe.

Ah, makes sense.

Can’t be a genuine PhaseIV, there was only one of those and it was green. The red ones were no more PhaseIV than the V8 GTR’s GMH made were V8 XU1’s.

It is a good “what if” though. We know that if the supercar scare didn’t happen that late 1972 incl Bathurst would have been a Phase IV vs V8 XU1. 1975 was going to be Phase V (XA coupe) vs probably an improved V8 XU1. After that, who knows. Ford were working on a V8 Cortina idea as they knew the Falcon could never compete with a V8 Torana. But 9/73 was supposed to be the start of ADR27 (later delayed until 4/74) and then ADR27A in 6/76. So no more factory race cars with big Holleys and triple carbs after basically the end of 1973. So, would Ford have dumped the Cleveland 302 and run a Windsor? The 351 Cleveland factory performance went downhill after 1971 so any hipo engines would be QC built here. What would have GMH built after LJ? L34 wouldn’t have worked under GroupE, not how it was built anyway. There was no way a pollution red 308 would cut it, it took until VK GroupA to get a good performance pollution Holden V8. All academic though.

Only one was a production Phase IV though? The green one. The other 3 started life as GT’s. Basically how the 3 x V8 LJ V8 “XU1” GMH were building started life as GTR’s. I thought those 3 x red cars were GT’s being built to be the works race cars. Or are all the articles written over the years wrong? (which is also quite possible BTW!)

And would you believe that the Bruce Hodgson car has been restored. I mean really. How much of that car could have survived.

That’s what I thought. I’d still have one though, to me an XA GT sedan or coupe is a bucket list car, maybe in my top 4-5 of Aussie made cars. Right up there with an L34!

IMHO, most people will see the Red XA's as Phase IV's and refer to them as such, even if the plate only says GT....

Never seen those plates before, really interesting and cool to see.

Do the GMP&A racing shells used in Grp C racing have the production code A9X (Performance Equipment Package)?

Or is the A9X production code only used in the Road going versions?
