Is there anyone up near Burrum Heads who could check out a car for me this weekend? It is a HZ Premier with an injected 5.0l engine that has just been restored. I am really keen on it and would be prepared to buy it if a forum member vouched for the excellent condition of the car.
Let me know as soon as possible if you can help out.
Cheers,
Gerry

Bit too far for me unfortunately. Hopefully there's a member in Hervey Bay available.

Jetstar is your friend

Especially if it has just been restored, a lot can be hidden behind paint.
Another alternative if that one falls through:

And don’t do what Col says and fly Jetstar. Never again for me. Cancel the f&$@ck&$g flight to Melbourne. Wait until I turn up at the airport at 6am after having just driven into the $50 a day undercover parking to tell me? Put me on a f$&ck$&g bus to Sydney? Get st$&ffed Jetstar. Rang up Virgin, booked with them and turned up in Melbourne before the Bus to Sydney flight even left Sydney.

lol...cancellations, buses, no notification...that's just normal for them.
Not to mention T4 at Tullamarine which must rent out at $3.56 a week, it's so far away , by the time you walk there, you may as well walk home.
But seriously, I have jumped on a plane to look at cars a few times, sure it's a waste of $ if you dont buy...but a cheap day out if you save yourself from a dud.
Worth a thought?

100% agree with Col though, jump on a plane and look. Just not Jetstar wankers.

Thanks lads but got someone who has a panel beater mate going with them to check the car out. It was a bare metaled car so should be ok. And have spoken with the lads here in ACT about the injected 5.0L and T700 and they said it should be ok and not need engineering.

Which is ridiculous considering they are the same motor. Probably the only time I would codone re-stamping a block.

Yes ACT uses common sense and says it is the same family engine and only fitted with injection. They are of the opinion that why should someone pay an engineer for something so simple. If it had a 9 inch diff and different brakes, then yes you would need one. But this car has everything stock bar the engine and trans.
Anyway, I have decided to opt out of buying it as it has non matching chassis and compliance (as alot of them do) but could cause me headaches in future.
Thanks for all the comment though folks :-)

I think you're reading too much into the "numbers" thing.
H Series aren't like Toranas where the tag matches the chassis number

You are quite wrong there. The chassis number will always match the compliance tag number (as stated above from 1972). In this case it didn't. So at some stage the front sub-frame has been replaced.

If my memory is correct???? HQ - HZ chassis numbers were stamped into the rails which could be bolted in from car to car? Also the tags were pop rivetted on?
Were earlier cars with the bolt on subframes the same? Stretching my memory here?

Some had the chassis number on the rails, lots (HD-HG) had it in the firewall. The PSN tag was screwed on prior to HK the body tag was held by those big pre-HJ push in rivets. HK-HG VIN plate uses the big push in rivets too.
