What is a homer Clay? A rotund yellow man of limited intelligence? A historical Poet?

Been chipping away... recent jobs include:

finishing installing roof lining

installing seatbelts

installing sunvisors and trim along top of windscreen on the inside

installing A pillar interior trims

installing windscreen demister venting which I've modified to accept air form a 12v electric heater. (yet to mount the heater box)

had a windscreen installed

sandblasted bonnet hinges, springs, bonnet catch and baseplate including upright support.

I painted all the bonnet hardware in 2K gloss black, came up sweet.

New updates:

bonnet fitted - still need to shuffle the front guards around a bit to get the gaps as best as they can be

wing mirrors mounted

polished and fitted stainless trims - I bought a cheap set of 6inch wheels for my bench grinder for this job, they came up so good. Really pleased with the result.

started making parcel shelf with 6mm MDF.

I had the car out in the sun when I was polishing the trims in the garage and took some snaps, the young bloke insisted in being in one...haha, he is interested already which is awesome.

Got the interior back from the Trimmer, it came up really nice. I'm pretty happy with it.

I'm doing lots of boring stuff at the moment like wiring so the updates are going to slow down a bit until I have more exciting things to report on!

for now here are some pics:

Hi guys,

Been making some progress on many small items that aren't really picture worthy

I had not enough ground clearance due to the exhaust and cats hanging too low, so I've got a CRS crossmember and set about cutting up the front part of the exhaust to tuck it up tighter the the floor. I've not quite finished this yet so I'll get some pics when that's all finished and painted up/ looking presentable.

I've also bee doing heaps of fiddly things like the front clip wiring loom / headlight relays, Thermo fan wiring, central locking, reverse and Neutral/park switch etc.

All jobs that need to be done and getting systems all working but not really picture worthy!

I drive the car up to my mates house on Bathurst day as he has a hoist and we worked on the exhaust that day. I've been back to his house twice and clocked up about 120kms of road testing, all going really well so far.

It's got a leaking front crank seal, which is to be expected with the engine sitting around so long it would have gone hard, at least it's an easy fix.

One thing I have been working on which is interesting is the dash cluster. I've taken a tip from the Iron Empire YouTube channel and I'm fabricating it using Alumibond sign writing board and Loctite adhesive/baking soda. It's working a treat so far. This method allows to use some of the old fascia and cut it all up and glue in new sections to make the shape I wanted.

It's time consuming, I've spent 2 full days so far, measuring, cutting, trimming, gluing, test fitting in and out of the car 17 times, filling, sanding and It's now in it's first high build primer coat.

There are still some pinholes and small imperfections I need to smooth out, but it's taking shape nicely.

It'll be painted in 2k flat black, I wanted it to look sporty, but like it could have been this way from factory.

Forgive me for being too lazy to have a look for myself, but is the Loctite and baking soda mixed together to make the bond stronger?

Yeah it gives the superglue something to bond to and makes it stronger.Once it is dried you can sand it back and paint over and can't be seen. I have repaired breaks in mounting lugs on dashes and they are strong and I haven't had any crack or break off again.

I found also that if I apply the glue into a join, it would be pretty thin and want to run, if you quickly sprinkle some baking soda on, it absorbs into the glue and thickens it up and slows it down.

Basically you can make a thicker glue where you need it.

More minor updates:

I've finished the Dash Fascia fabrication, I'll get a pic in the coming days of it mounted up in the car with gauges. I'm very happy with the result.

I've also mounted the 12v heater/demister blower and plumed up the air ducts. Yet to wire it up. I'll need to use a relay, I reckon it's going to be pulling some amps and I don't want to put that much load through the switch.

I also tested my Wiper motor which is sourced from a Ford Territory, I had to figure out which input wires corresponded to low and high speed which is all working nicely. I had tested it sitting in the drivers footwell, connected to the switch with some temporary wiring...I'm yet to final mount it up inside the plenum, I'll get pics when that happens

I wired and plumbed washer bottle/jets to the tank I mounted under the front guard. All working nicely.

Wired up the Horn

Another thing I had to solve was during test driving I found something was draining the battery flat. Being a new battery I knew something wasn't right. I stupidly assumed my wiring must have had an issue somewhere, so I started stripping back the main loom where I set up the fuse and relay box behind the drivers side headlights. It was a huge task because I've got all the wiring hidden and it turned out I couldn't find any fault there.

I then did the simple thing which I should have tried first (hindsight is a bitch!) and I tested current draw with the Alternator connected / disconnected - bingo I found the culprit!

I had intended on pulling the Alternator apart to paint it black but this discovery afforded me the opportunity to upgrade to a 100amp "self exciting" aftermarket unit, which conveniently has options of black, raw or polished. SO I saved myself some painting time...
