VSS speedo output on a 5lt VT computer

I purchased a saas electronic speedo to fit into the GTS dash but it doesn’t work as there’s no pulse coming out of the ECU there is the ac voltage coming from the Speed sensor in the auto into the ECU
I’ve messaged a few sellers in EBay about these No vats chips but no response does anyone here know if the VSS signal can be wiped or added or is it likely my ECU is stuffed?

Great to know that chops vn-vs2 out of the guess work, Had all kinds of confusion with this Frankenstein engine covers tell me the engines VS clubby / maloo with the 185kw and it also has a knock sensor but the computer is definitely the VT style with 3 plugsVN-VSII didn’t use an ECU output for the speedo, it came straight off the speed sensor. Not sure about VSIII (and VT).
Has been a fun introduction into fuel injection that’s for sure

If it’s a 185kW it’s a VR-VS engine. The higher output in the last engines as used in later VSIII (and also in VT) were 195kW. The final engines (late VSIII and VT) had 2x O2 sensors I think and were sequential fire.
Engine number prefix will give it up too.

Just go GPS speedo.

Gps speedo easiest way just stay out of tunnels.
Malex sell speedbox gps/vss mechanical drive & speedo cable for kingies...so can keep factory speedo. Not cheap at $599 for speedo box + $60 for matching speedo cable...can be wired up as gps or hooked up to ecu vss.
https://malexmotorsp...speed-converter
Last but not least pcmhacking forum have diagrams you can look up to know pinouts & coluor coding.
What transmission, ecu & loom are you using?
Does it match loom ecu setup?
vn/vp map based with th700,seperate speedo set divide by 5 or something.
vr/vs map based with 4l60e,speedo signal can be taken from ecu(3 plug loom iirc)...manuals sort of mix n match vn/p 2 plug loom with vr/s memcal & speedo wiring.Tad rare or exxy to find.
For memcal can try Ace Performance Tuning by FB or ebay..otherwise pcmhacking forum hit up a peep or buy gear to try doing it yourself if understand how to do it.
Throttle body should have manufacture date stamped on it,3 different dissy modules to help tell what it's all out of
vs s3/vt will have wiring for maf & iat at airbox.
vn/p will be 2 plug ecu loom firewall at passenger side.
vr will have transmission loom & as above loom on passenger side to ecu.
vs have engine bay harness going to driver's side
vs s3 or vt are maf based 3 plug looms, sequential injection basically from 98/99 vs ute & vt 5 litre cars...least desirable for conversions & to modify for a few reasons like not as interchangeable as vn-vs map based

Lots of good info here I’ll do some looking next time I’m working on it. If has a Maf sensor near the airbox
Currently running one o2 sensor on the passenger side but the loom seems to have connectors for two one each side of the transmission which is a 4l60e I’ve ordered two and a bung.

Can't find decent pinout diagram of vt 304 to look at...you might have to look on pcmhacking site download pdf to get it.
Speedo signal wire should be n one of the engine bay plugs.
https://pcmhacking.n...php?f=32&t=2265
Do know c12 violet white trace is vss wire to speedo on vr/s ecu.
Speedo signal wire should be n one of the vt engine bay plugs.

I can’t use the signal straight from the trans as it’s an AC waveform and from what I’ve learned the Trans needs the signal for the shifting etc.
I’ll join up to the pcm hacking and ask a few questions
But the GPS is looking like the way to go I just hate being beaten

4l60e?
Only tricky when using transmission no available vss to fit up.
signal should work off ecu pinout to aftermarket speedo...most seem similar unless manual like getrag or vn/p t5/th700 .
If it's different signal should be able to use dakota digital corrector box or like I bought off pcmhacking site from festy a corrector box that will correct speedo or rev tacho depending on use.

I'm not 100% familiar with the later Delco setups but don't the Getrag manuals and some of the later 4L60e transmissions have a direct 40 pulse per revolution (also sine wave/reluctor rather than square wave/hall effect) VSS? I think the ECUs can take either signal but possibly have to be configured for it in the tune?
Would definitely be worth asking the question on pcmhacking.net

vt & getrag may be different signal due to being maf based..100% getrag is different signal when reading up on it when did vs s3 setup in torrie mainly due to external vss.
Far easier to cheat with gps speedo for most cars particularly if factory cable drive speedo...can get knocked back for gps speedo as doesn't work in tunnels.
