Curious to find out what's available 'off the shelf' these days and what you guys use and recommend?

I wish to replace the following together:

1. Accelerator cable (current one is old and worn, history of it's origin is unknown)

2. Accelerator cable carb bracket / return spring assembly (current one is an old backyard hack special, it's never had awesome geometry nor provided ideal spring tension)

It's for the LX, to connect to a traditional 4 barrel Holley on the SBC.

Happy with a simplistic, functional solution - but open to any kind of billet options too - whatever works the best, will bolt straight up and be reliable and provide a nice pedal feel.

By all means, would love to see any photos too....

Cheers.

I should also add - my cable is rear mounted (it's routed so that it sneaks behind the dizzy and then heads forwards to mount to the carb, so that it pulls).

It's really the return spring setup that is bugging me. Sometimes the throttle will stick on a bit and I have to stab it to clear it.

Hi Brett.  I'm using one of those billet type brackets as per the pics. Also running the cable around the back like you.  I haven't driven it much but feels ok and not fouling on anything.  FWIW I have a 14" drop base filter with 1/2" spacer and 2 1/4" filter element.  All fits under the bonnet.  Only thing I haven't connected up is the hose from the catch can to under the filter base.  I will run it in from the front as opposed to normally around the back. It does get a bit tight for room around the back with all the other parts. Have a chat with Eric at Goodys and see what he thinks as he did the fine adjustments on it.   Cheers Ron

Sounds like you might have cable bind rather than return spring issues?
Might be fixable with lubing the cable and/or rerouting?

An early iteration of the yellow LJ.

Thats a bargain basement version of the commonly available aluminium throttle cable/double return spring brackets. Rear cable entry with curves as wide as I could make them.
it’s never given a problem.

Front entry cable on the old version hatch with factory bracket and single spring.

Later version.

This bracket was rubbish. Return spring worked fine though.

Eventually got around to adding some gussets and fixing the alignment. Still going strong.

Awesome, cheers Rexy. Yeah the sticky accelerator I have could very well be cable bind. My cable is so old - hence why I'm keen to just replace the whole lot at the same time.

I prefer the set up shown in Cook's photos with the return spring/s pulling in the opposite direction to the cable pull.

To my mind this balances opposing forces and minimises wear on the primary throttle shaft bushes.

I agree with Rexy (did I really just say that? )

The way his is set up gives a more gradual curve compared to an "S" bend
