This thread has stayed well on topic.
Thus...has anyone ever seen/ purchased what it todays terms be called a " rip shifter" for an Aussie 4 speed?.
I know the poor old syncros may not deal with it very well, but just askin'.

Reply to an old post obviously.
I tries a couple of shifters back in the day on my 3 speed.
Had a Speco H pattern and with it I had to keep the hole in the floor open, and a 1/2 inch ratchet handy.
It was about the right size to unjam the linkages and I had a few spare ones laying around.
A mate then sold me what we called a Pogo Stick shifter.
It could be used for both 3 and 4 speed boxes.
You just added another rod to the reverse linkage and poked it up through the floor for reverse.
It was a single plane shifter as opposed to the H pattern.
It worked a lot better than the Speco and I never had a single jam up with it when I was using it.
I transferred it from the 3 speed to the 4 speed when I put it in.
Would use one again in a heartbeat.
Never seemed to be an issue with adverse wear in the box either.
Cheers

Thanks for the info Rob.
There are a lot of XU1 type race cars running the Ken Zinner?? box in Victoria. I understand they are named after the guy who made/rebuilt them . They feature a 2nd stcik for reverse. Sounds similar.

The "Pogo Stick" shifter you mentioned was possibly an "Impala" shifter.

I reckon you are right with that.
You just jogged my memory.
It was a great bit of gear.

There will always be deflection on the input shaft on a removed gearbox as the other end is supported by the spigot bearing.
Gears can look fine, its the bearings, input and cluster where the noises start.

Ok so it's the oil slinger Dave. I'm waiting on a ktg manual. The vh shows a snap ring on the four speed.

Yes, the Aussie 4 spd and the all syncro 3 spd changed from the oil slinger to the oil seal input shafts in early 1974.
