Hi,

 

I am after peoples real experiences when mounting an electric fuel pump mounted just above the rear diff fixed through the rear boot. I know this can be a common way of doing it. This is the way I would also like to do it because it could be the only spot I can fit it.

 

Has anyone had fuel issues doing this? Car is LX red 308 engine pretty warm. Standard fuel tank.

G'day Suni. What pump? What filter(s)? What size line?

 

And what are you asking about exactly... are you talking about physical space (eg diff/suspension clearance), or fuel delivery, or water ingress/corrosion, or thermal problems, or NVH, or pump life, or voltage drop issues, etc. etc.?

Its a Holley Fuel pump. Unsure of exact details. the potential concern I have is due to the idea the pump needs to be ideally lower than the fuel tank. Will  just above the rear diff as I previously mentioned be too high to work properly and cause me engine damage due to bad supply? 

 

I know many people have mounted in there and it could potentially be fine. I want to hear from peoples experiences who have or know the results of mounting there.

I have a Holley blue in that exact spot in my hatch.

Plenty of room. No issues with fuel supply.

 

The old style Holleys are very noisy though, even with rubber insulation/damper.

Replacing it with something quieter is on my non urgent to do list.

Thank you for your response. I am not too keen on fuel tank modifications if I could avoid it for a few reasons, cost and time. I am almost at the end of my full running gear conversion on my hatch. I am getting a little toey wanting it all done so I can hit the road!

 

The old 202 has been replaced with an Aussie pattern red 308 engine, Tremec TKX gear box and VS Borg-Warner rear diff housing with a kaaz lsd inside. Costs and time have blown out, realistically always as expected I guess in the muscle car game.

Agreed, I ended up replacing mine with a Facet, also Holleys usually like to be gravity fed, they are not the best "lift" pump

I've had a high volume Carter above the diff for many years and never a problem. Was initially feeding a carb, is now the lift pump to an external surge tank for EFI.

Get rid of the holley and fit a carter, nice all round pumps, not too noisy, depending how warm or hit the engine is to what size pump.
There is a formula you can google for rough gallons per hour(GPH) for engine power, to work out pump size.

Yes agree 100%, Holley (& Facet BTW) are way too noisy, I don't know how they can still sell them after all these years.

 

The Carter is a much better pump. I ran one on our old drag car. It had 2 Holley carbs on a tunnel ram & 4 plates of nitrous & we never ran out of fuel flow.

I'm running the exact same setup (Carter pump and position). Runs perfectly fine and pump isn't too loud 👍🏼
