I have just rebuilt my 202 and it would not crank over. I have pulled the motor back out and pulled it all apart and re-assembled. Everytime I tighten my crank bearings the motor will not crank over by hand. Even using a lever on the harmonic balancer. I need help. Why is this happening?? They are brand new bearings and are being tightened to 60 ft pnd. The rear seal is rope but i checked the other bearings with the rear one finger tight and it still does not crank over.
Help please!!

Have you used plasti-gauge?
Sounds like wrong sized bearings but you need to measure it all up first to determine what or where the problem is.

yeah wrong sizes bearings or if you swapped the crank/block the block might need a line bore or the crank might not be true.

when you build the engine turn it a whole revolution after every single thing you install, and every nut you tighten

its still up to you to check if its the right part they are stamped on the back of the shell, your the one fittin em dude, if you wanna play engines then youve got to learn to check then double check your parts. a lesson learned hey.

I agree with 1quicklj.... your mate might or might not of made a mistake but either way the one to blame is the engine builder..

Just because its new and fancy package doesnt mean its correct .

To all those giving me shit about not checking the bearings, my mate who sold me the bearing has built several engines, he was there helping me whilst building my engine and he put in half the bearing himself. So whilst yes I should have checked them as a first time builder I didnt know any better, sure do now though. :banghead:

ahh mate, I dont think tehyre giving you shit.. It's just kind of an amature mistake! but hey! as you said it's your first engine so you ARE an amature! heheh!

Its an EASY mistake to make.. and its good that it didnt cost you much other than another assembly!!

But as you said.. lesson learnt! and the ones you learn teh hard way like this are the ones you never do forget!

And dont worry.. I'm sure you'll chuckle when we have someone else make a post that their crank dont turn after assembling it too! hehehe!

Glad to hear ya got it sorted!

Hi Guys.

crumpledoor said:- "My mate burnt me and sold me .010 oversized bearings."

The bearings you fitted were .010" UNDERSIZE, not oversize. If they were in fact oversize, you would have been able to turn the engine over very easily.

reminds me of the first engine i built

had one oil controll ring left over( the thin bit that goes either side of the spring bit)
thought to myself they mustve put an extra one in the packet

yep you guessed it
next time i pulled it down i discovered which piston was one short
