Yeah, I put nutserts along there for the scuff plates as well. Means you can use a nice button head stainless bolt (if that's your poison; it is mine) and it won't rattle around once the self tapper strips out the hole again, lol.

Nice work on the B pillars. That plenum will keep you busy for a while. The rust looks widespread, but you're making excellent progress. Good rate of work.

Thanks Guys, I'll mention the nutserts to dad when he's ready.

Lower plenum is done, now onto the A pillar bottoms. I'll let the pics tell the tale.

If GMH had done that to all HQ-WB and LH-UC there would be a lot more around today.

I don’t expect GMH would have thought many of their cars would still be around 40 or 50 years later.

GMH were more interested in selling more cars, rather than making ones last longer.

Hey Guys,

Its been a while since I updated this thread.

The car is still progressing slowly, Dad has mainly been working on the hang on panels and practicing his spraying.

The plenum top is almost ready to go back on, just need to finish the A-Pillar repairs first.

Both Bonnet hinge sections have been replaced and a few other small repairs around the firewall have been finished off.

Due to my misfortune and the diff place screwing up my new diff, it will probably end up in the LH now.

The LX had the windscreen changed to the one from the LH so that we can put a permit on it and move it to my place so that there is more room to work on the cars. The upper windscreen channel is non- existent, thankfully we have a full roof cut for sections.

Also threw the LH wheels on it and replaced the thermostat housing as it was leaking.

While the plenum top is still off this car, Dad decided to use it as a template to create a new plenum for the LX as it's proving difficult to find a decent repair section.

Does the wiper motor have a date in the plastic cover Steve? I've seen some with and some without.

Nice work. When I painted my LX hatchback in the late 80's I thought it was bad! It only had rust on that very top edge on the driver's side where you have the planned join. Plus the obligatory rust under the hinges and under the battery. It had the standard hatchback rust in doors, under the hatch rubber above the tail-lights and a little bit next to the hatch hinges too but those were done by the panel beaters, whereas I fixed the engine bay area stuff myself, but it was novice stuff compared to what you are undertaking.

Quick update.

The plenum is finished for the LX

this meant that the LH plenum top could be refitted which I don't have pics of and the passengers side A pillar bottom section could be refitted.
