Recently purchased a gear shift boot which comes with the surround and already knowing the surround was going to not be a close match to the silver, thought I'd still get it. Now that I have it, have decided it's crap and want to try and find a silver surround ... what are the chances and where do I look?

Pics below to show the old and the new ... looking for the old silver type surround if I can possibly find one!

Haven’t seen one for many years , you’d be better off just getting your original one painted in Portland grey and swap the boot over . Or you could paint the new one , but you need to sand off the fish scales , I’ve just sanded one back ready for paint , some 400 wet and dry got it smooth .

Yep as above, the Portland grey panels can be removed for paint, paint the rest satin black then chrome pen the edging.

I think the fish scales were on the HQ and maybe later models

Any recommendations on a chrome pen , most I see are just a silver but I think originally it was a chrome but goes silver after many years . The new radio fascia and console inserts have a chrome edge

They were on a Holden. I assume they built this repro for use on Holdens and just sell it as it fits a Torana too.

Did some research and found a pen called Molotow liquid chrome . There are a few YouTube videos showing results , it certainly is very chrome looking and a bit under $20 from most places

Ebay is your friend when trying to source some of these trim pieces, but gee it takes a while for them to appear sometimes.

Then be prepared to pay for the privilege of ownership.

Some of the dash restorers do good restorations with these kind of things.

Then again, patience & trial & errors can also have good results.
