Geez, standby for a rod thru the block.
Bathurst + 3.55/1 = dramas I would have thought. Maybe just getting numbrrs up for homologation.
I guess those ammemdment docs would confirm or otherwise.

Haha, higher compression engine, what a load of BS. The static compression ratio never changed throughout LJ XU1 production.

Wow! While it looks to be a good solid survivor car there are a mountain of issues to be addressed to get it back to stock original, with changed/missing parts noted in the few available photos.

"Special heavier springs" are news to me - haven't been able to find them listed in any of the parts books :-)

In its current state I would be looking to pay closer to half the asking price.

Homologation 5/5V for the 72 Bathurst camshaft and lightened flywheel included revised front & rear springs which are simply Heavy Duty LC Torana S & SL front & rear springs and the 3.55:1 diff ratio which wasn't aimed at being used at Bathurst.

It's an odd car too as L215021 was clearly assigned no cost centre (dealer code) and its zone office is marked as X, but it has an ADR plate which it shouldn't have ever had. These were only fitted to vehicles built for sale in Australia, there was no point and a waste of $ fitting one to a car built for export. I wonder if it was originally built for Australia and then moved to export?

Why did my old car also have its ADR plate?

I’ve seen others too.

Don't know. It's an Australian Compliance plate, only goes on cars built for sale in Australia. Every 1/1970 onwards HT-HZ and LC-LX I've ever found that has been built in Australia for sale in NZ has just had either rivet putty or if a HQ-HZ commercial a GVW plate in that location. It says so in every Features Manual, see the LJ one page D-6 attached. The LJ sedan in Wanaka auto museum L212775 just had the ADR plate holes filled with the putty that was used in the early rivets. Why a few cars have one, dunno? Are they all XU1?

If all the 9th month 72 XU1 found in NZ so far had an Australian Compliance Plate I could be tempted to think the same but alas they don't.

A certain number of cars had to be sold in Australia for 1972 homologation if I remember correctly, regardless of whether they were made and/or assembled here or overseas? Not sure how an Australian Safety Compliance plate on a car sold new in NZ is going to make it countable anyway? The same thought did cross my mind though, but cannot see how a NZ car having that tag would fit even if it was one of the cars used for homologation.

In any case, that is two 9/72 LJ's that were sold new in NZ and had their ADR plates attached.....

Whilst it seems they should all have had the plate removed, it simply did not happen..

Why?  Appears none of us know.

They weren't removed, they just weren't fitted in the first place. They had putty over the holes, same putty that went in the tag rivets. I've seen lots of them done that way. I should have taken a photo of the LJ at Wanaka. I took photos of its other tags.

My only guess is they weren't originally built for NZ sale, but were transferred after being built, to NZ sale. Not a dealer transfer but by GMH. Maybe not enough were allocated to NZ and all were sold prior to arrival so they grabbed a couple of Australian Stock Order cars and assigned them to NZ? Or its simply an error at the BAP.

Iv'e definitely seen NZ new Toranas with and without the ADR plate. My LX doesn't have it. Just rivets in the holes and a bung in the middle.

I've seen them with the ADR tags too, but all of those so far have been sent over from Australian stock, normally dealer stock. This car is a 000 X coded car.

As a note.. only from my observation... so not proof of any kind.... Buut I think nearly all XU1s I've looked at over here have had the 3rd ADR tag fitted. Because of this I always assumed that they must have fitted the tag on the line AND THEN decided which ones were to be sent across the ditch.
