Just reading hawk’s thread and something said by yel327 and indyorange reminded me of this
Had to check it was not something I’d imagined
No, it’s true, a dirty business trick only a conspiracy theorist could dream up
Ever wondered why they can put a man on the moon, but they can’t make
a lightbulb that lasts more than a month?? (anymore)
Almost seems that they do it on purpose

Have a butcher’s at this

Yes, but it did spawn a golden era of Holden models. 1956 to 1976, 14 models in 20 years.

Funny how the cars in that golden era, and even the following years were made far too well to have a short shelf life,
and they were easy to repair and keep going
The guy thought up the idea in the 1920s
If the game was to make a product to clap out quickly, they didn’t really get that right for a long time.
Unless releasing a model with a weak gearbox or the like counts as an example of his cunning plan

On the other hand, the strategy of redesigns, upgrades and facelifts to make buyers want what they didn’t need
Isn’t really dirty pool at all

The lightbulb story is a true eye opener for anyone who doesn't know it.

The original electricity war story in the US is also fascinating. Poor old Tesla got royally screwed over.
